How's Capcom's relationship with Sega?
« on: January 06, 2008, 12:58:24 AM »
I remember Capcom being Sega's strongest supporter during the Saturn/DC days, but I read that their working relationship was put to an ugly end when Sega announced that they were going 3rd party. I remember posters on GAF mentioning that higher-ups at Capcom Japan were pretty vocal in their contempt for Sega. Is any of this true? Or am I recalling incorrectly?

It's a shame really since Capcom has done some great stuff on Sega's arcade hardware too. Naomi's best games were developed by Capcom, in my honest opinion.

Sega would provide some weird ass characters for a game like that.

Sonic
Ulala
Some Jet Grind character
Ecco the Dolphin
Toejam and Earl
Nights
Guy from Shenmue
Monkey Ball
etc.

Yeah, I guess the characters from Virtua Fighter, the characters from Golden Axe, and Shinobi might work, but the rest would be so bizarre.  :lol

Quote from: Chris Kohler from GAF, circa Summer 06
The last decade of Capcom shareholder meetings, summarized:

"The Saturn is the system to beat! And by Saturn, we mean Dreamcast. Dreamcast? Haha, just kidding: GameCube is where it's at! By which of course we mean that the PSP is the future of gaming. Okay, maybe we don't know what the future is, but it's definitely not Wii. Wait: what happened at E3? Oh, god fucking damn it."
I always respected Capcom for trying to build an audience on the second-tier consoles.  Perhaps they could have made more money being another big fish in the big ponds, but they probably wouldn't have as many die-hard fans today if they had.
