What R U Playing - 01/07/08
« on: January 07, 2008, 05:35:14 PM »

Fired this up again even tho I always get to that boss guy in the middle of the game and get mad and quit. Its kinda nice playing it on portable for a change. I named my character Potch just to make things confusing.

I deleted my old save on purpose just to unlock everyone again. Artificial Gameplay Extension get!

My skills have dulled and I once again groan at the last boss. Soon I will be practiced again and will destroy him and lol all the way to the bank. I still have my old save so I have ol Blodia II :D

Level 69 and trolling PVP for marks and Honor points. I'll need 80 AV marks, 50 AB marks, and 30 WSG marks to fully kit Season 1 gear at 70, so I am getting it while I am at the top of the 60-69 tier. The amount of honor I need is something like 70-80,000, so its gonna be a long road. Plus there's the accessories i'll need to nab but ill get those at 70.

I've become quite the decent Wehrmacht player.

More WW2 goodness, I wanted a beer and pretzels wargame and AW never did it for me.

Difficultly cranked all the way up, trying to get the hardest "medals" in the game.

Wii - Metroid Prime 3

PS2 - CastleVania: Curse of Darkness

PSP - Silent Hill 0

fixed lol

anyway Ive been playing deathmatch Doom over xbl, originally just for achievements but its actually really fun! Beats CoD4 as far as multi is concerned, lol j/k but it is cool

and single player too! Im halfway through Inferno on Ultra Violence, its getting kinda tough, lots of big baddies and not much ammo :( gotta start scrounging for secret rooms. 200/200 here I come

done with CoD4 for a while since I got all the achieves, will probably pop it in sporadically for online

plugging through Eternal Sonata, 10 hours in. Eternal Sonata> Blue Dragon

Might go back to Dead Rising or Warriors Orochi to pick up some more achievements

also on my playlist:

GBA - Dotstream, very sexy, arty racer
DS - Slitherlink, Etrian Odyssey.... getting there! almost finished the final stratum hopefully

I just beat the St. Francis Folly where you have to get the four keys (Hephaestus, Atlas, Poseidon, and Damocles). That level was epic.  :bow

Already posted this in the old thread...oops

I just played Rock Band at Best Buy with some random dude for like an hour and a half. It was awesome. :lol I can almost beat all the songs on Hard drums now just from one night of playing on Festivus and a couple of times at Best Buy. :rock

And I'm almost done with God of War 2, which is basically the first, just MORE. And Assassin's Creed is fucking great.

how far into assassin's creed are you? i thought it was great at one point, then it became clear that the rest of the game would consist of repeating the early routine with no variations or intensifications whatever, and finally i was relieved to be done with it

spoiler (click to show/hide)
though the wackiness of its ending won it some points

I didnt mind repeating things, I mean I did the same in GTA, but AC managed to create an environment I wouldn't mind doing it for a while in. Granted, I havent finished the game, im pretty far in tho. Still, when im dumping 41+ hours into Dynasty Warriors Gundam, who's to say what i'll spend lots of time playing.

i don't mind repeating interesting things, but ac's mission design doesn't really merit the words 'mission' or 'design'

it's got a lot going for it...the parkour is awesome, the architecture is a marvel, and i even like the fighting. they just neglected to make a game. it's like crackdown: the crusades

Well, that's a game I just bought and haven't played yet, so the comparison is beyond me.

Anyway, I can say that the combat engine fucking sucks, but I knew that for sure going in. Wait, did you stealth edit that you like the fighting? I skimmed over that. I really hate it. I'm just gonna try to avoid confrontation as much as possible.

The fighting is one of the bits that I thought was designed really well. The animations and counter system/counter grab/counter throw were all nicely animated, and very satisfying to pull off. Of course, it is a system that works best in 1v1, 2v1, or 4v1 max. The game goes and shits on itself by the end by throwing 12v1 at you and then it just seems stupid.

But I actually really enjoyed the combat. It's very Prince of Persia or Heavenly Swordish in its reliance on few swings with very precise counter timing. Though, to be honest, the timing window is significantly larger than something like a real fighting game.

I was never much of a TR fan, but Anniversary has made me a believer. It's kind of like the game I wanted Prince of Persia: Sands of Time to be (all of the cool platformer/puzzle solving elements, but without most of the tedious, boring combat). It's definitely worth it.

As for the achievements, I've only got 10 points so far.  :lol You get some for beating it on Easy, Medium, and Hard for a total of about 125 points, and then most of the rest are either from finding all the hidden Artifacts and doing the Time Trials. I'm not really going to mess with any of that stuff until I've beat the game once. Then I'll go back and try for the achievements.

Drohne: I think the best argument I can make is that people lined up for much less in the GTA games, but you are correct in that we shouldn't tell devs this is good enough, but after so many GTA/SaintsRow and hell even a good game like Crackdown, I really enjoyed seeing a game do 'as good' as the previous entries into the genre, while stomping those before with attention to detail, atmosphere, and storytelling.

AC is fun but many things will be repeated in the game.  I wouldn't really compare it to GTA because it goes to such a different level of detail that the "city design" is more comparable to platformers.  It also grabs you more than most sandbox games because of how it gave you new abilities and weapons after each assassination (which made a difference).  the back and forth between the virtual world's story, syncing with the past, and throwing knives into a guard's stomach from 50 yard away made the game interesting and very unique.  I finished the main game as in I did all of the save the citizen, eaves-drop, interrogate etc. missions in every city and I scaled all the viewpoints in the game in about 15 hours.  I might have gone for the templar's cause they're pretty fun to fight but I had to give the game back to my friend.  The story was actually interesting enough for me to restart the game to play it over again (you can only have one save) but I won't get the game for a while until it drops down to $20 or something.

Took me about a dozen hours. I'm accounting for it keeping the game timer running while you have it paused.

Holy shit, I just experienced a ridiculously bad glitch in Assassin's Creed. I just arrived at Damascus riding my horse, and a notification comes up telling me I can rescue citizens from soldiers and they'll help me in return. I lock on, and I go to attack while on the horse, and I fall into a glitched abyss. You know, the ones where you're falling under the level? This continued for about 30 seconds, upon which point I died and received the Eagle's Will achievement. :lol

Tekken 5 DR (PS3)- Loaded this up for some good ol' fashioned ONLINE PLAY, YEAH!  Oh wait, I keep getting network errors, kicking me back to the main menu, or there's no one playing.   :-\  I'm thinking of taking up Lili as a new character.  I really want to learn Armor King BUT I know I'm sticking with BOB OMFG AWESOME BOB in TK6 as my main man.  With the TK6 move list in front of me, everything seems to be pretty much the same for Lili.  My main TK5 character Asuka got changed up in 6 and it's hard to practice at home with her.

Virtua Fighter 5 (360)-
UNLIKE Tekken, I can load this up and always find a match online, and that's saying something since these matches are almost always against Japanese players.

KOF Neowave (Xbox)- So I finally got this from a Yahoo Auction after searching for it for like eight months.  Load it up, so far so good...no real BC issues and the controller works fine.  No Angel or May Lee sucks, and where's Seth?  Plus it doesn't look as good on the 360 as the PS2 version does on the PS3, but hey, I got this for the online play and to have a KOF playable on the 360.  It's just too damn bad NO ONE plays this game online anymore.  I checked the weekly ranking and found a whopping NINE PEOPLE listed.  :'(

I was never much of a TR fan, but Anniversary has made me a believer. It's kind of like the game I wanted Prince of Persia: Sands of Time to be (all of the cool platformer/puzzle solving elements, but without most of the tedious, boring combat). It's definitely worth it.

Give Legend a try when you're done!   Crystal Dynamics TR =  :hyper  Core TR =  :S  It's just that simple.

Recent Crystal Dynamics games are hot sex. Their games demonstrate a fundamental understanding of how characters should move (including acceleration, momentum, weight, etc.) in 3d space-- Soul Reaver, and now Tomb Raider. Their games feel like rubbing yourself in butter and then rolling sideways down a giant fajita.

I chose a food similie because CD reminds me of denis dyack.

I enjoyed it.  I thought it was better than MS6.  The biggest problem with the post MS3 releases is that it pretty much recycles everything.  The series doesn't really try to make itself fresh after the third one.  It all seems like fanmade efforts.  I enjoyed MS5 and MS6 but still, the series has stagnated.

If Nazca had still been making the games post-MS3, I'm confident that they would have come up with something more original.

I liked Metal Slug 6 a lot more than 4 and 5, but MS1-3 are still better games.  And let's not even mention Metal Slug 3D.   :-X

slug 6 is by far the best phony metal slug. it's got awful graphics, but it takes advantage of the CUTTING EDGE DREAMCAST HARDWARE to produce some really chaotic combat scenarios, and purely in terms of gameplay...it might be my favorite in the series. :/

srsly, that encounter at the end of level 2 is genius -- just the layers of strategy you have to devise to come out with your weapons intact for the boss
