Recently, I had to make out a will. The main issue, of course, being what happens to my boys in case the wife and I meet an untimely demise. A week later, we had to goto a wake for a parent of a family friend and it got me in a morbid mood.
On the way home from the wake, I told my wife that its creepy how we treat our dead. With one of my best friends being an undertaker, I probably know more about the preparation of the dead body than the average joe. I just think it's such a waste of time and money to pump the cadaver full of chemicals and then slap a coat of paint on the face so you can be on display for a few days. 80% of the time the body looks nothing like it did when it was alive. At best, it bears an uncanny resemblence to a partially deflated wax figure.
So, cremation. That's what want done to my corpse. Bury the ashes in the family plot (already paid for) and keep a bit for an urn in the house.
She was totally against the idea. She wants to see my body, she claims it will help her in the greiving process to be able to see my body in that state. It would help her deal with my death. Seeing a pile of ashes would not help her.
So, would it be sleazy to go behind her back and put in our will that I MUST be cremated and there will be no open-casket funeral/showing? Because that's what I am thinking of doing.
