I'm near the end of Chapter III, I think.

Okay, so I'm at the pedo duke's castle, which is three (?) battles in a row. First battle is at the entrance, against a bunch of archers and knights. Frickin' easy. Second battle is against Wiegraf, first in human form, then in Lucavi form. I remember from my previous playthrough (back in the old PSX dayz) that I got stuck in this section so I already leveled up Tailwind back in Chapter I when I started replaying the game on PSP. So, that was a piece of cake. The thing is, I COMPLETELY FORGOT there was a third battle in this castle, against Elmdore and his two assassins. So, the battle starts and I think "Well, can't be much tougher than the last one, right?" Wrong...fucking Elmdore and his assassins are so fast they kill Rapha (who I'm supposed to be protecting) before I even get a single turn. Okay, I think...I just need to change jobs, right? So, I restart the battle and switch my characters to jobs that make them a wee bit faster. No luck, this time Ramza gets one turn and then the assassins cast stop on my characters and I can't do shit. So, I check and I have no items to prevent stop...well, fuck me! Okay, okay, so if I'm just able to kill at least one of the assassins maybe I can get through this battle...no luck.

FUCK FUCK FUCK I have to reload an earlier save and go buy some equipment that prevents stop because otherwise there is no fucking way to win this battle with the classes and equipment I currently have!

Make a save before that battle, make sure Ramza's mastered Tailwind, and that your party members are able to change to speedy jobs afterwards (preferably ninja) and equip hermes boots and green berets (which raise speed). I'm trying to level up my characters to get the ninja class before trying again. :/

i thought the marquis of elmdore battle was WAY worse than wiegraf/velius -- the latter is dumb simple with auto-potion+x-potion on ramza. elmdore's stupid assassins and their built in haste and their insta-kill attack are ARGH. even orlandu didn't make it any easier!

Orlando doesn't join up till Chapter IV...but I think you fight Elmdore again later on.

Ninja: Level 5 Thief, level 4 Archer, level 2 Geomancer.

Samurai: Level 5 Monk, level 4 Knight, level 2 Dragoon.

god i hate grinding for jp with a thief. i wish the fuckin' errands returned more jp -- i'm in the middle of chapter 2, and getting 100ish jp for an errand is BULL-FUCKING-SHIT

I'm grinding thieves right now to get ninjas for that battle with Elmdore. Fuckity fuck, they are weak and useless. I basically have them as chemists.

My team was Ramza, Agrias, Beowulf, Cid, and that swordsman chick you get in Chapter IV, whose name I forget. Mustardio was lame.

I hear that when you get Balthier, he's basically the same as Mustardio except with more skills. Mustardio thus becomes utterly irrelevant.

Weird that the classes they added for the PSP port are basically useless, and yet the new special characters are so much stronger than the regular units you get in the game (I just got Luso a couple of hours back and he's fucking strong).

I grind in FFT when i play it to an extent that when I ever get to that fight, noone can fuck me. The thing is, I tend to hate grinding in srpgs, but in FFT I cannot HELP it goddamit it is so fun for some reason.

Onion Knight and Dark Knight. Onion Knight has no abilities but can equip anything, and Dark Knight is apparently impossible to get since you have to master Knight, Black Mage, and have like level 8 on three other different classes.

Dark Knight is basically Gaffgarion's class, "Fell Knight", with a different name and some additional stuff.

That was my reaction. Apparently Onion Knight has some special equipment that only that class can use which raises its stats substantially, but the only way to get those pieces of equipment is via multiplayer. Also, the only way for the class to go up in level is to master two other classes...so, say if you master "Knight" and "Samurai", Onion Knight will go up one level. You have to master 16 classes to be able to get Onion Knight to max level.

It's a completely useless job.

the best way to beat the assassins is to level up with yell and accumulate before you show up. it should take about an hour or two and you'll be set.

the skill names have been changed, so they are probably not 'yell' and 'accumulate'

Yup, now they're "shout" and "tailwind." Just figured it out by looking at what they do.

Just got Beowulf, Reis, Construct 8 (Worker 8 in the old PSX version), and Balthier.
