I'd forgotten how great the writing is and how fun the characters are. Sure the card game isnt as good and the battlesystem isnt as tight, but god damn the whole package > ff8.

FF7 DOES make me nostalgic, but it isnt the best FF game for certain

Both are awesome for different reasons.

Quina sucks.

FF9 is the only game that has actually made me smile at its characters. You can go ahead and skip that last part of it though...

i couldn't play ff7 all the way through because it was kind of boring. the same with ff8. when i got ff9 not only did i like it, but my friend was playing it simultaneously so i had someone to talk about it with.

one day i'd like to go back to ff8, maybe 7, and play it all the way through. i figure now it would be easier to get through after all the games i've played and how much better at rpgs i've gotten. unfortunately i just got blue dragon and overlord, along with the fact that i'm playing dw6 and musou orochi on the 360, which means what little time i have is locked up in those games.

I like the game too, and I guess the characters, but they have no more meat than 9's. Amarant is the only 9 character who really lacks substance IIRC. I don't know why Zidane, Dagger, and Eiko aren't on your list.

zidane is the same character the entire game no matter the situation until he goes emo on Terra. i like him and his witty personality, but i think vivi is the all around better character. zidane just isn't an interesting main character.

Dagger is another good character.

Eiko...I forget she even exists.

Freya had potential but she ends up being another filler character.

If the FFT port is anything to go by, the FF ports would be a piece of shit and give more incentive to hack PSPs

He doesn't have to change to be a good character, as you admit. Vivi is definitely the star of the show.

I forgot about Freya lol, she had huge potential and didn't use any of it.

FFIX has the best FF mini game ever: chocobo hot and cold. I was so addicted to FFIX's chocobo raising. Seriously.

And the game is sooo beautiful.
