Schappert will be presenting the session, “A Future Wide Open: Unleashing the Creative Community” during GDC on February 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. PST
in the Esplanade Room of the Moscone Center's South Hall.

A statement from event organizers CMP Group said that the session will “set the strategy for Xbox 360 this upcoming year, revealing top developers' plans for the platform in 2008.”

"The Game Developers Conference is the premiere stage for industry leaders to present their strategies for advancing the state of the art of games," said Jamil Moledina, executive director of GDC in a statement. "Given John's experience and the Microsoft game development team behind him, we are confident that our attendees will not want to miss this glimpse into the future of how games will be made."

The buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

With just an hour, and the topic, I don't see a toooon of stuff being announced here (plus, I guess it is GDC). But maybe a surprise or two, ya? Would have to move quickly from topic to topic to cover their stated stuff (creativity?) plus talk about new games.

It’s been six months since Microsoft Game Studios officially opened in Europe – what’s progress been like?

We’ve built a team here now. Key for us is finding great European talent to help us both understand the development community here better, and more importantly understand the gamers in the European community. Our portfolio now, and the games coming over the 12 months, is very well targeted towards different groups – but I think we can do better at that. So helping us have a base of publishing here, filled with people who are from here will help us achieve that. And clearly for us the basis of our success is building good relationships with creative talent – that’s our number one focus overall.

http://www.developmag.com/interviews/96/Game-On-Part-1

i wonder if they got any new euro developers.

They lost LBP because of the lack of a base in Europe.

Yes, the lynchpin of Microsoft's '08 strategy is a sequel to a racing game from Sega.  Most of the hour is devoted to it.

I'm kind of confused because this meme is everywhere now, but, like, we do know their lineup, right? I mean, all the big games-- NG2, Alan Wake, Banjo, Fable, Infinite Undiscovery, Too Bomba, with likely appearances by Gears 2 and maybe PD2...we do know.

Throw in a few surprises, and that's the first party lineup for the year....and that's a damn good first party lineup. I think the meme itself is framing the conversation and I just don't get it.

well, i think you are right that they don't need to announce to sony's schedule. it doesn't make any sense to.

but i think that sony hasn't announced all their stuff either, so i think the entire GAFtivity of list-making is sooo weird.

i do think they will end up publishing more this year than ms did last year (kind of like how MS outpublished them last year), but it isn't any badge of honor or anything, just the logical extension of the idea that their japanese studios are finally producing next-gen games. whether or not any of it is good is of course what we will see. with this in mind, it's silly to make any kind of judgement at all...i think ms probably has more surefire hits in their announced catalog anyway.

except too human.

is gdc really the place for BIG SWEEPING LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENTS? you expect publishers to announce or highlight a couple interesting projects, as sony did with lbp, but i don't know where these 'megaton' expectations are coming from. it's...a developers' conference

MS does have big news, whether they use it on an event like GDC? I doubt they will - they'll announce what they need to announce on their own - why have the message diluted?

Could have come from my mouth, but I think there'll be a nice chunk of surprises. And as the definitive Western third party console, I'm sure there'll be some third party coups.

My favorite part of the meme, I think, is that the first big budget next-gen exclusive for 2008 is Lost Odyssey.

I really don't understand how the meme was able to frame the conversation, but it can only be the Sony-loving GAF of 2004 or so finally getting a foothold to swing the site back away from 360. All it took was a hint of viability from PS3.

And an influx of dozens of 'new school regulars' who bump PS3 threads like nobodies business.

What shocks me is the admins let that happen without a peep.

Yeah RAD has been pretty solid so far, GoW PSP is awesome.  I remember reading about the Sony fallout on GAF, Ravidrath (sp?) talked about it around the time Okami Wii was announced.  Would be nice if they were doing another action game.
