There's some R-Type toys coming out soon in Japan with all the ships from the series.  Or it may be R-Type and some other shooters' ships, I dunno...I know the R-Type ship is one of them tho.

delta > 1 > 3 > 2 > Leo > Final > Super

i hestitate between 1 and delta. 3 is a lot of fun as well.

r-types on ps1 contains essentially perfect versions of the first two games. it's available on the japanese psn if you want to get it that way
