What are the movies you're going make sure your children watch?
« on: January 18, 2008, 06:26:01 PM »
For me it will probably be The Neverending Story, The Princess Bride, most of the Disney animated features especially starting from The Little Mermaid all the way through Lion King, arguably Disney Animation Studios best era.  Pixar's input, with the exception of Cars has also been stellar. E.T. and Star Wars (original trilogy) will also be on that list.  Sounds cliche, but that's what I could think of at the moment.

What movies do you want to share with your future offspring?

Oh, and my parents didn't really make sure I watched any particular movies. I found out Darth Vader was Luke's father from The Simpsons when I was like 8 or 9.

It's not so much about forcing your children to watch but sharing the movies with them.

Yea well, my parents didn't really share any with me lol

Or maybe I just can't remember.

I do remember seeing Jurassic Park in theaters with them, though.

Die Hard, Terminator 2, Commando, Predator, Aliens

My stepfather introduced me to action films at a young age.  He didn't care about ratings or anything like that.  So we saw everything.  He was a big movie collector and had a huge VHS library.  Ironically, he didn't let us watch Eddie Murphy's Boomerang, due to the gay character in the beginning and the double entendre he made about oral sex.  I must of watched T2 over 20 times.  I loved that movie.

I didn't think you were joking.  By today's standards of acceptable violence those movies are pretty tame.  Profanity may be an issue, but aren't they going to hear those words eventually in school like everyone else.

Make sure you take them to sunday school at the same time TVC, and tell them that El Topo is basically a visual bible.

I want to see Santa Sangre.  It sounds awesome from descriptions; the sort of movie every little kid should see.  I can fool the kid into thinking it is about Santa Claus, and then. . .

Quote
As deeply troubled Fenix (Axel Jodorowsky) is enslaved by his armless mother and forced into a murderous existence following his release from a sanitarium, Jodorowsky instills his protagonist with a desperate sense of fear and helplessness from which there seems little chance of escape. An alternately brutal, hallucinatory, and beautiful film, Santa Sangre is without question a polarizing effort by its very nature, though viewers willing to be seduced by Jodorowsky's alluring cinematic nightmare will find themselves surprised, enthralled, and richly rewarded with an uniquely unapologetic film that's not easily shaken off.

Quote
A  young man is confined in a mental hospital. Through a flashback we see that he was traumatized as a child, when he and his family were circus performers: he saw his father cut off the arms of his mother, a religious fanatic and leader of the heretical church of Santa Sangre ("Holy Blood"), and then commit suicide. Back in the present, he escapes and rejoins his surviving and armless mother. Against his will, he "becomes her arms" and the two undertake a grisly campaign of murder and revenge.

It sounds awesome and I am sure it will be worth watching for the visuals alone .

:bow Jodorowsky, that crazy bastard.  I would so let him traumatize my butthole.  And my kid's butthole.

Some parents honestly don't care about stuff like that.  I remember I had a friend whose parent were all paranoid about stuff like that.  His dad also had a huge collection of movies and when we would ask to watch one of the rated r movies he'd say, "Not now, buddy.  Maybe when you're older.''

Scarface? Eh if I have kids I'm not renting it, ever. I'll let them see Godfather first. I'm tired of that stereotype

Sad story: A couple days ago Pizza Hut had this deal where EMU students got free pizza. So I was sitting at a booth with some other black guys, and there was this small TV near us that was playing The Godfather - which is like my third favorite film of all time. So me and my brother are watching it, and the three other black guys are too. I sat down right at the part where Appolonia is killed by the car bomb. But as you know, the "action" scenes in Godfather are separated by lots of dialogue/plot scenes

*5 minutes later*
Black guy #1: nicca this is BORING
Black guy #3: It's either this or...*looks at the other VHS tapes on the TV table* Lion King.
Black guy #2: Ayo man it's aight, stop hatin
Black guy #1: I'm not hatin but come on. This ain't no mob movie. Scarface is better
Black guy #2: co-sign
Black guy #3: No shit, this aight but my nicca Pacino ain't nuthin in this. Tony Montana baby, all day!
Black guy #1: No doubt. Ayo did we miss all the shooting parts?

To me it's a 7/10 type affair. Not horrible, but certainly not a "classic" as many hail it today. There just isn't a lot of...I dunno, substance...there. And I never complain about that with movies but Scarface eh. I'm just tired of going to NAACP events and hearing all my peers declare it as their favorite movie.

godfather is a pretty bad movie.  I don't think I would have even watched it if it wasn't for all the hype.  scarface on the other hand is actually a funny movie to watch with how over the top it gets with the violence.

I consider both movies pretty low and shitty though.  If you see somebody praise either, just tell them they're wrong and say it's another organized-crime-with-honor-shooting-people-in-the-nuts type of movie.

It's all because of the rappers/MTV Cribs attention this movie got, that it's hated so much by whiny elitist white people.

And average how so? I find it funny how someone who cites a shit-trilogy like LotR as one of their favorites gets not any shit at all, but a Scarface fan is being laughed at. lmao :lol

Btw, WTF @ at the trailer TVC posted. I have to see that, if only to see that woman's vagina

Check out this one, PD.  Jodorowsky movies always feature abundant nudity.

I had to post the Japanese trailer because of all the trailers it features the least nudity.  Note that the real movie is in mexican or some shit.  No idea why they released an english dub in Japania.  distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.

It's all because of the rappers/MTV Cribs attention this movie got, that it's hated so much by whiny elitist white people.

And average how so? I find it funny how someone who cites a shit-trilogy like LotR as one of their favorites gets not any shit at all, but a Scarface fan is being laughed at. lmao :lol

When did this happen?

Don't worry nintenho, no one here thinks you can comprehend more than that.
do you guys really not get how simple either movie is?  the godfather book was considered trash when it came out but then the movie was considered high art.

If important films can't have lowbrow text as their source material, there goes the entire Alfred Hitchcock oeuvre.

Yeah, most of his movies feature lotsa synbioses.  There's female nudity, though; fear not!

In a different trailer I can't link to, Jodorowsky brags about how he slept with every woman that appears in The Holy Mountain.
