It's funny how all you 24" upgraders all bought the same model.  You guys should have gotten some kinda group discount.

It's good and cheap!  Prole got his, and then he whored it.  If it weren't so cheap, I bet three of us wouldn't have jumped on so quickly.

But I mean 400-500 bucks, 24", 1920x1200, very fast response time (like 5ms, I believe), how could anyone resist?

Samsung is reliable ,no doubt.  But if I didn't already have a 24", I would also have taken a very close look at the new 24" wide gamut from Dell.

It has the same S-PVA panel as my current LG model which has very nice image quality.  However, the Dell is much more versatile in terms of scaling, which makes it a better mon for use with consoles.  The wide gamut also has a more advanced backlight which supposedly allows for more colors.  The only drawback is the price, which is going to be about $700.

er, no.  The 24 inchers released in the last year are massively improved from the ones 3 yrs ago.  Only now are the response times of 24" LCDs good enough for fast gaming.

No, my 2405 works perfectly well for fast gaming.  I've never seen ghosting of any kind.  I am jealous of the contrast ratio and brightness of new models, though.  If I'm still only playing WoW and next year's (well, this year's) 30 inch displays are sub $1K I'll probably bite.

2405 is 12/16ms response time.  This one is 5ms.  I won't touch anything 12 or above.

Considering how dishonest LCD manufacturers are with regards to response time,  your monitor is probably closer to 12ms while the 2405 is closer to 30ms.

True, but why get something that advertises that it flickers as much as a CRT display?  I like LCD displays because they are EASIER on the eyes, and a 12ms+ response time negates that benefit.

The only thing that I miss about CRT monitors is that you can have great image quality even at lower resolutions.  Playing Crysis at 1280x1024 on a CRT would be so much easier on the GPU.

Even if I have the money right now, I don't know if I'll upgrade to a 30".  I don't think my 8880GTX SLI would be be adequate to run most new games w/ max settings at the native resolution of a 30".

I have a feeling that I will be playing most games at 1680x1050 until new GPUs hit (when will that be, btw?).  Not every game performs as well as CoD4.

This info http://www.fpslabs.com/reviews/video/amd-radeon-hd-3870-x2-review just came in today!  Apparently, AMD/ATI now has the fastest single card solution.  It accomplishes this by having 2 gpus on one card.  It should be available pretty soon since most hardware sites already have final boards.  AMD requested reviews to be delayed for a week so that they can better optimize their drivers.

I'm betting that it'll only be around $400-450 because it's been a long time since ATI was on top.  You might want to wait for the 9800 from Nvidia though, which is also a dual-gpu solution.  The NV card will most likely be more expensive.

I think they estimated it around 200W, which is incredible compared to a 8800 SLI setup.

That would be significantly less than my single 8800.  Me like.

I stopped having issues with LCDs as soon as they hit around 16 ms.  I also have only seen the rainbow effect on DLPs when viewing certain black and white content.  Anyway, sorry to hear you guys were stuck using CRTs up until a year ago.

edit:

Quote from: 2405 review
Ghosting is something I never really noticed on the 2001FP and I can detect none here as well. Response time is quoted at 12 ms Grey to Grey. However Samsung have the panel rated as 8ms. Basically it looks fine to me.

christmas 06 i got a 19" acer which has been serving me well but i was contemplating an upgrade (since i don't have a television, this is my only way of watching movies).  I kind of wish this one had more connectors than just DVI and VGA
