I'm trying to think of all the US and JP games that might be worth getting this year for PS2:

- Gundam Musou (JP)
- Mana-Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis (US)
- Yakuza 2 (US)

...and, uh...that's it...anyone want to help me add something to the list?

That hasn't been confirmed, has it?  I don't want to put my faith in stuff that hasn't been confirmed yet...Persona 3 FES has been rumored for a while but I won't believe it till I see some confirmation.

Funny you mention this.  1UP just had a feature on this subject today.

http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=1&cId=3165424

Link is not working for some reason.  Personally, I think the 2008 PS2 lineup is even more barren than last year, which was already pretty bad.  That's why it's funny whenever people use the PS2 as an example of how the PS3's 10 yr plan can work.  PS2 is the most successful system ever and even it can't be support a 10 yr plan.

And on the "I hope they're real" list:

Persona 3 FES (US)
Super Robot Wars OG (US)
Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Gundam (JP)

Persona 4 was on 1up's list.

Persona 4 was on 1up's list.

I'll wait until we get more than a report from Bloomberg to believe that Persona 4 is on the way. Unfortunately, that means a Famitsu article two months before it's released.

the PS2 is far from dead, it's going to rise from it's grave in 2008 - expect a LOT of stuff.

You're not trolling, are you?  I'm really hoping this is for real, since I don't own either of the next-gen systems (PS3 has no games, 360 breaks down just from looking at it the wrong way).

SNK's arcade compilation sounds fecking awesome.
Last Resort, Shock Troopers, Samurai Shodown, hells ya!

I'm also counting on some nifty budget titles to work their way through the system, now that SCEA has unclenched their asses a bit.

Even if Dcharlie speaks the truth, the PS2 is still a terrible choice as a primary system.  All of the A-list developers have moved on to next-gen.

Just get a PS3 if you're that worried about the 360's reliability.  The PS3 lineup easily trumps the PS2's lineup in 2008.   I don't know if you should be that worried about the 360 breaking down though.  The new 360s seem to be pretty reliable.

Oh, true I forgot about that SNK arcade collection.  What was it titled again?  I'll add it to the list.

Smooth, I still have a bunch of PS2 games I haven't even touched.  Just because I am hoping the library expands in '08 doesn't mean I wouldn't have anything to play even if Sony killed off the PS2 tomorrow.

nope - Sony have been asking for people to go back and make PS2 games for a while now - and there are some interesting rumblings about the PS2's future.

Nice!

Well, not like it would take much, all they need to do is add the controller, and voila - better than a Wii!

Why didn't Sony wait another year to release the PS3 when the PS2 was still selling so well?  Sony would have been in a much better position if they had waited for at least one more year .  Not only would the PS3 have been much cheaper, the PS3 would also have been an obviously more powerful machine than the 360, instead of being viewed as a more expensive 360 w/a blu-ray drive.  Many fence sitters probably bought 360s only after they saw that the PS3 wasn't significantly better.

I seriously don't know how people can continue to believe in Sony's 10 yr plan for the PS3.  All the different SKUs show that Sony doesn't even have a plan for the 1st 5 years.

sega killed sega though. Every now and then they do something right, but the good decisions are so rare that i'm not even sure i'd want them to be fully revived.

Bernie Stolar killed Sega.  Don't you remember "Sega Saturn is not our future"?  The guy basically killed all hope that system had (it was doing badly, but not as badly as PS3 is doing at this point!), especially considering it was actually selling decently in Japan.  Then he launched the DC way too early.  If it had been launched closer to when the PS2 was launched, things would've been very different.

It really makes sense now for MS to acquire Sega.  MS's greatest weakness remains its ability to get exclusives while Sega is increasingly irrelevant as a software-only company.

Sega's got ventures in Japan in other non-software fields.

I'm more offended by the porting of stuff like R&C and Silent Hill 0 to PS2 -- perfectly good portable games, but limited when put against the previous PS2 offerings in the series.

Surely GoW: Chains of Olympus won't be left to die on the Piracy Station Portable?
Hands up who'd rather play it on a big screen!

I can't speak for R&C, but Silent Hill looks and plays great.  And you can always play it on a TV with the PSP 2000 anyway.

Because, well, to be honest, I think they can do it better than Nintendo.
