I'm afraid of insulting people. I guess they are not friendly with gaijin? I'm reading up on this, but the literature I have is so vague. Sum up some etiquette for me, or useful suggestions.

WHAT is the legal drinking age? (I'm under 18)
HOW do I approach a prostitute?
WHAT is good for the nom noms?

you might wanna toss that itinerary out the window if it's your first time and you have no idea where to go. a couple friends of mine went last summer (first time) and they didn't get to do 1/2 the shit they wanted. prioritize the things you REALLY wanna do in case you don't get to some of them.

Where are you going in Japan? Just Tokyo? Nara and Miyajima were both incredible, is your group going to either place?

The wife and I are starting to plan our return trip to Tokyo for Spring 2009 to view the cherry blossoms. We're hoping to hit up Kamakura and Nikko, along with spending time in all the areas of Tokyo we missed on our two week trip back in July 2006.

For real. There was a thread that some moron made on GAF a few months back where he was talking about how he wanted to go to Japan and he'd "never leave Akihabara." A few of us sort of shook our heads and tried to convince him of the importance of doing sightseeing and trying to get a feel for the culture of the country you're visiting, until sp0rsk stepped in and angrily boasted that he hadn't gone to a single historical site or temple in all the time he'd been there, didn't see any use for it, wasn't planning to ever do it, and reproaching us for trying to make the OP feel bad for just wanting to hang in Akiba.

i lived in japan for three years (81-83, father stationed at camp zama) and in retrospect the best parts were the temples and such.

though the times we went to the tokyo toy show ruled too.

i was obsessed with gundam then. i found a scrap book i had which was all stickers from the movies and photographs of gundam floats and baloons from festivals.

that and sentai shows

I didn't see this addressed. Sorry to tell you this, but there's not going to be a way to play Japanese 360 games on your U.S. system. Not that it matters anyway, since there's really nothing out here that you'd want to play that isn't already out in the States.

here's a question. I know that asians are generally short, or considered short. when i was growing up in japan, i was larger than other kids my age, so i always thought the sterotype would hold true

when i visited Hong Kong recently I was just above agerage height (I'm 6'2") which is what I am here in the states.

is there a dispairty between chinese and japanese in that regard?
