See, there are two ways for Niko to steal a police cruiser: find one on the street and smash its window to gain entry, or wreak as much havoc as possible and let the the law come to him.Thankfully, the Rockstar reps showing us the game took the latter route, and Niko whipped out a pistol and fired wildly into traffic. Pedestrians ran screaming, and cars crashed into each other in a panicked attempt to escape. One SUV driver actually ducked down behind her dashboard when she saw that Niko was aiming at her, then swerved blindly before hauling ass in the opposite direction. Only a few people actually got hurt, but the important thing was that the assault worked as intended: a pair of chubby cops showed up in seconds and started screaming at Niko to drop his weapon.
The sequence was also filled with some cool pre-scripted events; in one case, Rivas' car sideswiped a cargo truck hauling barrels, which immediately started tumbling onto the road in front of Niko. There was also a flatbed truck carrying logs, and we were told that if Niko had shot the chains holding them together, they would have spilled out to devastating effect. That brings us to another feature that's new (and long-overdue) for GTA IV: Niko can smash out the windows while he's driving and aim out the window. We're talking free aim and the ability to shoot forward, not just the awkward drive-bys you could pull off in previous games. After blasting away at Rivas with a pistol (and tearing right through a tollbooth), Niko busted out a submachine gun and riddled his enemy's car with lead, resulting in a huge explosion in the middle of a bridge. We're told that if Rivas' car had been crippled but not destroyed, he would have gotten out and fled on foot. Which is what Niko had to do, vaulting over the side of the freeway and tearing ass through a park when the real cops finally showed up
Himu, I'm looking for that quote about Niko trying to stand up and falling down. Find it for me.
Eventually we reached a nearby watering hole, Bar Perestroika, which was highlighted on the map by a cocktail glass icon. Choose to go bowling or play pool and you actually compete in a mini-game, but head to a bar and the scene cuts straight to the chase of the after-effects of a skinful, with Niko and Roman falling out of the bar, barely able to walk. Here the full implications of the new Euphoria physics engine and skeletal models could be witnessed in the most humourous way possible, as the pair stumbled over themselves, falling over each other and putting out a steadying hand on nearby objects. At one point Niko attempted to upright himself on a parked car, misjudged and fell flat on his back in the gutter, while muttering drunkenly to himself. The characters all react accordingly to each other, and this extends beyond the main cast. While driving about Liberty City we noticed non-playable characters had been blessed with astounding little flourishes – at one point a car collided with a pedestrian at low speed, and they extended an arm and steadied themselves before moving on.
MR: I was especially intrigued when the Rockstar guys said, "oh, there are other ways to scale buildings." When I asked about it, they confirmed that you'll be able to climb stuff, assuming there are ledges within grabbing distance - although they added that "it's not Prince of Persia."
MR: What's the verdict on the crime computer? Is it an awesome addition that adds depth to the world, or just one more complicated distraction from driving and shooting?CB: Well, that distraction only appears if you get in a cop car.MC: I thought it added an interesting twist to another 'kill informant' mission.CB: I love that cop cars aren't just "click right thumbstick to trigger Vigilante" now.MC: did two guys appear on the in-car computer in your demo?MR: Yes, because the guy who was giving the demo just typed in "Rivas" instead of "Lyle Rivas"CB: I wanted to ask what would happen if we chose the other guy.Do you think players can just skim through the crime computer on a lazy day, chasing down whomever they find in the records?MR: Probably it'd show you where he lived, and then nothing would happen because there'd be no marker to trigger the misison. That could be fun - "vigilante" taken to another level - but it'd also mess up the flow of the missions, so probably not. Or if so, there'd have to be restrictions.CB: I wonder what kind of extra depth has been given to other specific vehicles, like ambulances, fire engines, pizza scooters, etc... care to speculate and dream?MR: Could there be a "pizza computer" that clues you in on the suspicious characters most deserving of pizza? One could dare to hope.

We say, let bygones be bygones. GTA IV is dated – the delays are finished (fingers crossed). But for those who simply must know: "It's really no surprise to anybody that the PS3 was definitely a contributing factor to [the delay]," Rockstar's Jeronimo Barrera tells MTV. No surprise indeed.
Crackdown 2 > GTA IV
