I have a pair of Sony nudes (which are generally highly regarded, I guess) and I don't think the bass response is very good in those either.  I've been satisfied with surrendering to the idea that ear buds just can't do bass well.  If the Shures are THAT much better, I will pick them up.  So tell me.

absolutely awesome.  Lots of neat stuff in here like Decamaron translations, i'm currently reading milton caniff's Lacey which was an Army newspaper strip about a pin up girl.

My group of friends are all board games nerds. We play Settlers of Catan at least once a weekend. We've even made Settlers of Washingcatan, which is an octagon-based map of Washington state that uses the play mechanics of Catan. We put in St. Helens, and it can even errupt and totally fuck with your placement if you settled around it. My one friend who was the lead game designer on Pirates of the Burning Sea is also working on redoing the board game Starfire (we now call it Star Fuego Con Queso), and we're also creating this game called Battle for Seattle.

Tomorrow, I'm getting together with a bunch of guys to play Attack!, Civilization, Axis and Allies before finishing up with some 8-player Halo 2 rocketball.

This is a great tile-based board game for a friendly drinkin' party

lots of expansions

you can even buy glow-in-the-dark zombie pieces

this game gets unwieldy as it goes on with too many expansions

there's a set variation called Last Night On Earth which addresses the pacing problems

but let me tell you, we used to play zombies with the sole intent of fucking one player in the ass throughout the whole game.  you didn't know who it would be, but the first person to show weakness was destroyed systematically for the rest of the game

great fun.

I might go pick that up tomorrow.  Playboy of the 50s would be when most of the interesting writing was, and also it sounds like the mag attracted more movie starlet types back then, and that was when movie chicks were still awesome.

well there was a knock off that genre fiction themed in the 60s known as Rogue.  Departments by Alfred Bester and Robert Bloch.  I keep hoping to find a lot of those on the cheap, but it's hard to find at reasonable prices (like trying to find old issues of mondo 2000)

i'm guessing.  which is odd because Knopf brought back all of his novels and some of his short fiction back into print in good editions in the mid90s.  I guess it didn't sell well enough to try to bring into print his other stuff like his non-fiction and the like

which is kind of upsetting when you see the same publisher will print any old shit that PKD wrote on a napkin

He had like 5 novels in development when he died.  I think they just pay someone to finish one off every couple of years.  Or it might be Gene Roddenberry syndrome where his name is getting attached to things that he had an extremely tenuous connection to.
