Bad thing about living in an OLD house=the heat fucks up at least once during the winter. Looks like the pilot light in the furnace went out, and I doubt I can get anyone to fix it today.

Only my hands and feet are cold though.

I mean turn it off for a minute to let the gas clear out and then turn the gas on and light it. it's pretty simple and probably there is little to no danger being that those lights go out pretty often and they don't want people to blow themselves up.

Update: wasn't able to light it. My next plan was to just call the energy company and lie that I smelled gas, but that plan was axed when I heard my mom threated to sue them wtf. Apparently my house was under warranty for service, but they're claiming only my parent's house was...so she called up and started causing shit. Dumbass

So now I'm heading over to their house for the night. I'd rather stay here but she's insisting I come "so you don't catch pneumonia"

I don't know that I'd be able to figure it out, either. Your furnace isn't something you want to fuck with if you're not sure what you're doing. Do something wrong and your house is cold, or you have to pay a ton of money to fix it, or you blow yourself and your house up. No good outcomes!

What you need is one of those elongated grill liters (with the long neck). You should hear some hissing or something which means the gas is running but not lit up (obviously). Your not going to blow up your house.

Though, I can't blame PD for this fear seeing as I have a fear of popping balloons. One is more dangerous than the other.

If your worried about the blast radius, just get a long fuse (that'll reach outside your place) and stick it inside the furnace. Light it up and run 100 yards down the street. By the time you come back you should have heat.

I had one of those long grill lighters. I was able to light the pilot but it kept going out after I let go of the gas button. Basically you're supposed to keep it lit for 30 seconds, switch the meter from "pilot" to "on", and bam it's done. But it didn't work. I'm heading back tomorrow to try again. Jeez I don't like coming back to my parent's house :/
