most anti-virus programs slow the computer man than an actual virus
I like Symantec Antivirus. It's like Norton but it's a stripped down version for companies. It's has very low resource consumption. I got a copy from a place I used to work at back in like 2002, and I've used it ever since.
That's what I am using now. Before I had Norton Systemworks, which slowed my PC down so much...I had it installed almost right from the beginning, so I had no idea how much of a resource hog it was until I quit using it. I think I'm going to try reinstalling some of the PC games that were choppy before and see if Norton was the reason.
I have run into a problem with Antivirus though. Occasionally it becomes a HUGE resource hog and slows down EVERYTHING until I reboot. I forgot the name of the process that's doing this and was told to download the latest updates to fix it, but I have the latest updates already.
I'm going back to Mac this year, so I'll put up with this shit a little longer and then it will all be irrelevant anyway.
Quick question that shows how little I know about PCs: Does running my laptop at a higher resolution versus a lower resolution also slow things down? I always have it at 1600x1200. (I don't mean for gaming, just general desktop stuff)
