Simcity Societies gets 3rd patch

I was upset to hear that this game wasn't a real simcity, but I've also heard the devs are patching it like mad to make it more suitable to the hardcore.

ANyone try it per or post patches?  I may have to give this a 'whirl'.  I absolutely loved simcity 2000 and liked the original a good deal.

It was originally sim city with a new engine, but for casuals.  Also, it wasn't made by Maxis.

People bitched enough and now it is being molded into a true'er sim city title.

this game was terrible.  it was so fucking easy it was ridiculous.  And it was so pointless.

god, one of the worst games I've ever played and SimCity is probably my favorite franchise.

This game is actually decent with the patches. The last update added a strategic mode with the following features:

Quote
Buildings carry an ongoing maintenance cost. If maintenance requirements are not met, buildings have a chance of taking damage which will put them out of commission for several days or even result in destruction.
o
Recycle gains are reduced, making shrewd planning critical
o
Work and visit durations are long. As a result, Sims can go to fewer places in a single day.
o
It’s more difficult to keep Sims happy
o
Unhappy and Rogue Sims are more likely to act out, produce negative special Sims, or transform into negative special Sims
o
Rogue Sims are much less placated by the act of shutting down a workplace, and will remain unhappy or even on the verge of becoming rogue again.

and three new difficulties-basic, hardcore, and nightmare, and added some achievement style things where you would create a city with a "target" to meet, along with another achivement (always available) to move up to the next higher tier difficultly. It made the game a lot more engaging, IMO.

It's still a 6.8 game, but not a bad one by any means IMO.

I played it pre-patches and it was terrible.  I'll reinstall it

you might want to check out the contests they have going at:

Community challenges were the way I re-introduced challenge to my Civ4 game after I got too good at beating down the AI.

Nice.  I might have to give this game another chance.  I have to admit, I was kind of peeved it wasn't more classic style :(
