Many of his critics though he was a front for a black singer. That's how much soul he has!

The Shins are great.  I've never seen Garden State.  Actually, I'd never even heard of it and still have never seen it referenced outside this forum, where it is regarded as a hipster-nerd cultural touchstone, although my hipster-nerd friends and my hipster-nerd self never seem to have got the memo.

I dunno.  I get all my film reviews from the World Socialist Web Site... I wonder if they ever reviewed Garden State?

looks like they did!  the review in full:

Quote
Garden State is written, directed by and stars Zach Braff, who has a leading role in a television comedy series. A young man, Andrew Largeman (Braff), now acting on television in Los Angeles, returns home to New Jersey for his mother’s funeral. He hasn’t been home for years. He is highly medicated as the result of a childhood trauma.

There isn’t much to be said about this film. In its depiction of a rather run-down and seamy side of New Jersey, it threatens to be taken seriously. The sad state of some of Andrew’s old friends and their families arouses hopes. Enter the “love interest,” in the form of Natalie Portman—apparently directed to be quirky and endearing—and those hopes evaporate. Everything between the two leading characters is completely hopeless.

It would be better, all things considered, if Braff didn’t make another film until he finds something to say.

I think the only thing I liked about this movie was a couple of songs on the soundtrack... and Natalie Portman of course. The rest was pretty boring, and yeah like others said, without much to say.

The Shins make for a good Zune commercial.

Garden State stinks though.  Fandango is a much better coming of age movie.

:rofl :rofl :rofl

God, it's such a terrible movie.  I realize how horrible it is, but it's one of those movies that entertain me regardless.

Except for the AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH at the end.  God, what fucking crap.  That had to have been thrown in at the last minute which makes me wonder what other crappy ending that really had.

The link he put up is obviously the best part of the film. It's the only reason the film is worth watching.
