It's a decent enough buy-MS has the cash on hand and needed to spend it on something, and analysts have been riding their jock for years for the performance of their web portal (MSN) and web search tooling. Buying Yahoo would give MS' web presence a huge shot in the arm, which it arguably needs to stay relevant with google in that arena.

Well spending 700M on TellMe didnt help them strengthen their play for the telecom/IVR space.....

Im not complaining tho....I had points at TellME and I got points at Yahoo!

It's a bit better now, but it's not really a night and day difference.

Not like Yahoo is really a brilliant web portal. . .or that web portals are even needed these days.  They are dinosaurs now that there are decent search engines, for the most part.  I bet this buy is more about Yahoo's experience in the advertising game.

You wouldn't know there were Democratic debates yesterday, either.
