Saints Row > GTAIV
reasons:
1. story that doesn't take itself too seriously
2. garages, and the fact you get to keep the cars you put in your garage
3. customization, and clothes that don't look like shit
4. something to do around every street corner, so no wasted space
5. game is hilarious and a lot funnier than gta4. "freckle bitch's" "on the rag clothing" omg far more compelling than tw@!
6. missions have variety, and even if, at least so far, there aren't multiple ways to do them, at least they're varied. All of them are things you'd find in a GTA game though, and some are missions that have appeared in GTA in some form. It feels like a GTA greatest hits.
7. best side missions in an open world game. so much content, so much variety, and it all has to do with crime.
8. actually recognizable gangs, and emphasis on gangs instead of a main character and his shitty pathos harkens back to my favorite fucking gta ever: gta3.
9. game rewards exploration, unlike gta4. the more you explore the better clothing shops you find, and stuff like that.
10. characters have personality and are awesome. Johnny is better than any character in GTA4. Isn't Johnny asian? He is the best asian character in a game ever. No stupid RELATIONSHIP bullshit.
11. money has actual value. Weapons are expensive and so are clothes and you can choose what you want at the get go, you don't have to wait till you get to such and such mission to use a certain feature, which gives the open ended feeling a boost. and since there's so many clothes and so many clothing stores to visit, you can feel overwhelmed. It's pretty cool. I also like how you can buy liquor or drugs for health boosts.
so that's 11 reasons why Saints Row is a better GTA game than GTAIV. Pathetic. Rockstar didn't even pay attention to the best gta clone out there and now SR2 is going to SMOKE GTAIV. lamo Good job keeping yourself away from your fanbase as far as possible cunts.
I prefer GTAIV's controls though, that's really it. You can't even look behind your shoulder on foot in SR. And in a car, you can't click the right stick in to see behind you, you have to press LB and RB. I don't like the fact you can't customize the controls.
I'm not sure if there's great rewards for the things you do in SR aside from respect or money though. It'd be cool if it pulls a GTAIII, VC, and SA and gives you cool rewards for everything you do like awesome suped up rare cars you can't get anywhere else.
I owe loan sharks 5000 dollars and they've sent a crew of hitmen to kill me. They're not a major threat as they're pretty easy. That's so badass though.
The side missions are the shit. Drug selling is the shit, as is insurance fraud, pimping is great, escort missions rock, mayhem missions are genius and play on the fact that open ended game fans like to cause mayhem.
It's like Saints Row knows exactly what to do with the genre while Rockstar thinks they can get away with the shit they pulled. I hpe the next gta bombs so they'll step their game up.
