2007 Patriots = best team ever. Don't need the Superbowl to cement their place in history.

Uh, yeah they do.  They just proved they were a great regular season team, but couldn't cut it when it counted.  The '72 Dolphins, The Steel Curtain, '85 Bears and 80s 49ers are the best teams ever.  And that's because they won it all.

That was a joke. I'm predicting how Patriot homers are going to try to spin this.

What, the '91 Redskins?  They were dominant, but they weren't one of the best teams ever.

And honestly, I'd take the '03-'05 Patriots over the '07 variety.  They at least won the big games and were more dominant on defense.  Plus, the offense got it done with far less weapons.

This game went to show that the Patriots dynasty is probably over - all the guys save for Samuel and Gay are pretty old.  They let the Giants hang in there.  They wouldn't have two years ago.

Two years ago they were 10-6, then lost by double digits to the Broncos in the playoffs!  You're a crazy person.

And how many years ago was the '05 Super Bowl?  Come on!  You're doing math like you went to school in PG County.

I am no football expert, or even fan, but really, how many of you would pick the Giants to win again if the teams had a rematch tomorrow? A team that finished 10-6 (IIRC) in the regular season or the team that finished 16-0? Obviously losing the Super Bowl diminishes the Pats' accomplishment but it's still a hell of a feat and not one to be mocked idly IMHO. The Super Bowl just looks to me like an 'any given Sunday' fluke.

Still...I bet Tom Brady is on the phone to Dirk Nowitzki (who won the NBA regular season MVP and got bounced in the 1st round of the playoffs) right now tho :)

Huh, I didn't say I prefer the Patriots from two years ago - I specifically cited years!  Did they not play in the Super Bowl in 2005?  2006 was the Steelers.  2007 was the Colts.  2005 was the Pats!

Quote
Speaking of Brady, if the Patriots had finished 19-0, I planned on starting my column with a scene from the Patriots' postgame party. Through some mutual friends, I had arranged to hang out with Brady's crew for what promised to be a laid-back celebration in somebody's hotel room, probably no more than 15-20 people since Brady's circle is surprisingly and refreshingly small. Because it was a rare chance to catch Brady in an unguarded moment -- and an important moment at that -- I spent most of Friday and Saturday thinking about that first paragraph and all the different ways it could start. I kept seeing Brady sitting in a chair with his right ankle encased in ice, quietly sipping a bottle of champagne with a satisfied smile on his face, and Gisele would be there, and everyone would be recapping 19-0 and remembering the incredible season. I liked the thought of a famous person celebrating a historic night in such a totally normal and relatable way. And that's what it will remain. A thought and only a thought. It never happened.

I don't think so actually. I mean, they beat the Cowboys in Dallas, GB in GB, and the Patriots. What are the odds of that happening if it was an "any given sunday" type of scenario.
