Any tea drinkers here?
« on: February 05, 2008, 12:02:39 PM »
I'm looking to start drinking, mostly for health purposes--antioxidants and such.  Does anyone here drink tea on a regular basis?  Where should I start?  Green tea?  Black tea?

you can't go wrong with either.  I personally like green tea more.  I drink quite a bit of tea everyday

I drink iced tea a lot, usually green iced tea or the Arizona iced tea (lemon flavor)

I possibly drink more tea than I drink water.  I personally think that it helps me burn fat even though there's still no definitive proof from research.  With all the fatty foods that I eat and the lack of exercise in the past year, I should be severly obese.  Yet I'm not, so I attribute the fat burning to my tea drinking.

Almost all teas are good for you, so just try out what you like.  Some teas that almost anyone can enjoy are Earl Grey, Dragonwell, Jasmine, Oolong.  If you're really just drinking for health reasons, then supposedly white tea is the best.

I have mostly STASH brand tea in my office:

English Breakfast
Earl Grey
Oolong
Peach Black Tea
Green Tea
Blackberry Tea

Green Tea is probably the best way to go plus its got some of the lowest levels of caffiene

My friend/roommate/bandmate/coworker is a tea connoisseur who gets tea from his friends in China.  According to him

Quote
Fast-forward now to Troy's return to America. He neglected to bring much tea with him, assuming "It's America.. I can get anything I want there!". Troy just assumed he could walk into a tea shop and buy decent quality Chinese teas, without too much trouble. Unfortunately, he found that to be far from the truth. The products he encountered were nicely packaged, but only mid-grade, stale, and hugely over-priced. So, he simply asked Liu Lin to mail him some tea. After some time, his friends and co-workers began noticing his wonderful teas, and asking if he could get them some in the next package.

He was trying to turn it into a business for a while, but it's kind of defunct or suspended right now.  You could still probably contact him for tea advice or for great cheap Chinese tea.  http://happypandatea.com

Green tea, Moroccan mint tea, and Masala Chai are my faves... Black tea (Red Rose) on occasion when I need a pick-me-up.

I'm not a big fan of tea, but my wife loves Genmaicha and bottled Itoen and Kirin green tea.

For iced tea I like Ito En's Green-Jasmine Teas' Tea.  Surprisingly, it seems like you can find them just about anywhere nowadays; over the last couple of years the "specialty" packaged drink market appears to have exploded.  I tend to avoid bagged teas at home, but I have a couple of Tazo's blends at work (Earl Grey, Zen).
