At long last I have overcome being a dirty poor.
« on: February 06, 2008, 12:00:56 AM »
Well sort of. In case you missed my GAF OT thread, I spent a couple of the last nights sleeping in my car as my GF and I tried to find temporary housing and while I waited for a job offer. Tonight we secured housing and I got a formal job offer for a position as an (software) Engineer.

Being homeless sucks and I don't suggest it. If anyone here is in college out of state, I highly suggest saving money or finding a friend who will let you stay with them for a prolonged period after school. I saved as much as I could and thankfully have enough to last me this month as I await that glorious first adult paycheck.

So yes, rejoice at my return from the hobo life!

Congrats, man. I was wishing you luck from across the country.

OT: You remember those photos of Billy G nailing the players girlfriends?

Worst shops I have ever seen! The O-Face they made for him was hilarious, though.

You don't get any support from your family?

maybe I'm wrong but living in a car with someone you love for a little time does seem a bit adventerous to me

My parents live 2 states away. They were ready to drive down and help my girlfriend and I move back if we wanted. They didn't have the cash to help us with rent or anything, but they were willing to help in other ways.

It was. Lots of wardriving, and bumming around campus. The worst parts are not being able to shower and brush your teeth as much and of course sleeping. The reality of where you're sleeping doesn't hit until you try and do it. Thankfully we only slept two nights in the car, even though we spent about 4 days living in it. I do have an annoying bruise from my seat belt.

where did you sleep?

We managed to get friends to let us crash last night, and one night we stayed in a hostel. If we had tried earlier on the other days we might've gotten to stay with friends as well.

as someone who was essentially jobless and homeless in a squat for 6 months, i can confirm that being homeless does suck.  thankfully things sound like they're on the right track for you

I think you could've sold tickets to bluemax and karakand watching a USC-UCLA football or basketball game in the same room. It would be the same way if you were to do the same to me and jasper. There would be lots of crying and drinking afterwards in instances of this.

I am pretty bored in cisco class.

Well the company is in the Los Angeles area, but if I get to go up to GDC I'll be sure to let you guys know. I'd love to go to GDC since my friends from school are up there promoting the awesome game we worked on last semester.

The one place in LA that sort of felt comfortable: near campus. It was a bit scary and bizarre the first night. The second night we parked in a quieter spot and I slept a bit better. If I wasn't afraid of getting ticketed we might've stayed down by the beach.

I had my GF for that purpose.
