Space Ace (on BluRay and HD-DOA)

I hope abrader will give this title the full writeup that he did for Dragon's Lair.

I don't have much to add as I've never played Space Ace, but I figured I'd give abrader the heads-up that it's official.

i'll own it if Amazon/someone will ship it - they won't ship Dragon's Lair because it's a "game" :/

that sucks because technically its not. ITs considered a BluRay movie and its even listed on the BluRay review sites as such :(

That's bullshit.  Hopefully someone can hook you up.  I'd do it but I'm dead broke right now.  In a couple of months though if you still haven't gotten a copy we'll see what we can do.

Space Ace and Dragon's Lair are two of the shittest games ever created. I don't know why this even deserves a thread smh.

You're right.  I should post more threads about English of the Dead and "Lying@Home."

Sorry.

Dragons Lair and Space Ace and Cliff Hanger are better than your fingerprint covered prostate ;)

True, it's not the most engaging game ever made.

Personally I liked Time Gal and Cobra Command for Sega CD as far as interactive graphic games go.

I think there has been a grave misunderstanding here.

Nostalgia = high
Quality = low

It's an interactive cartoon.

Scene one... up, left... oh no, death... up, shoot... ok, win.
Great formula.

Its not tho - its the worlds first QTE game....it is about timing, randomization and reflexes....

QTE parts do well in games these days - nothing wrong with playing the gran-pappa of all QTE games.

Dragons Lair didnt even have a proper release untill the BluRay version (never played the HD DVD version to know if the scripting is arcade perfect)

Your prostate got so many fingerprints the FBI uses it as their crime profile database ;)

my question is are the remotes fast enough?

i recall there being huge problems with these on DVD because the lag between input and selection was such that the game became a very frustrating experience

I use the PS3 controller for my dragons lair Blu Ray.

The remote doesnt work well because they put the sword button in the middle of the navigation buttons....where as on the PS3 controller you use the control pad and the x button.

I am sure the HDDVD version on the X360 should let you use the XBOX controller instead of a remote.

so essentially if you're using a gaming console, then it's fine, but trying to re-create the experience for a standalone player will probably be an exercise in failure and frustration?

Something like this should definitely include a button-mapping option, since remotes are usually so different across the board.

If the only "enter" button on the remote is the key in the middle of the nav buttons - yes!

Dragons Lair didnt even have a proper release untill the BluRay version (never played the HD DVD version to know if the scripting is arcade perfect)

The LD release was the arcade version. I "played" it on a German friend's LD player about 17 years ago.

I too had the LD version and it was nothing like the arcade;

- no scoring system
- no stage randomizer (much less at the same points as the arcade)
- move timings were different.

I have a Dragons Lair Blu Ray thread around here describing in detail as to why the game never had a proper home version until the Blu Ray edition.

The LD version did at least have all of the scenes....but it just looked like the arcade - it played nothing like it and likely wasnt any fun just like any other DVD incarnation.

The JAVA scripting platform for BRD's is what finally gives us the arcade perfect gameplay at home.

Honestly I can see why anyone who has only played this on 3DO, PC CD ROM, DVD, Laser Disk, etc....hates it - the game is just no damn fun if its the same lame moves/stages over and over with no scoring or reversed stages, etc..

AHH there is one thing keeping the Blu Ray edition from being arcade perfect....

no 2 Player mode....and on the arcade version when playing 2Players the game would randomize/reverse the stages more for the player with the higher score of the two as to make it more challenging.

And that's why I made this thread, we have a resident qte guru in our mix.

I hope when this game comes out you give it an epic thread like you did with Dragon's Lair.  It was a lot of fun to read about the differences of the game over different platforms.  Well done, abrader.
