Dead Rising is great
« on: February 06, 2008, 11:19:46 PM »
Really great even. Smashing zombies with televisions and running them over with lawn mowers is epic. One question though, how the fuck do I get past the Prisoners? Do I need to get a gun? Do I take an alternative route to my next mission?

I died on my way to the last part of Case One because of these fuckers and because the missions were so close together I decided to just do them all then save after I got to case 2. So after I died I saved which kicked me back to the beginning of the game again, what the fuck? Is that how it works?

Game is awesome.  Don't worry so much about failing and restarting your first couple of tries.  Just keep playing until your guy's high level enough to beat the whole game.

yeah, if you choose the option to start over.... You can save in the security room and any toilet you find, and reload to that position.

The game requires several playthroughs, so dont expect to be able to do all the scoops etc. at your low level. Just focus on the cases

Theres a hidden Uzi and Katana in the Paradise Plaze grab those if you want to take out the prisoners. Uzi is on the series of blue awnings you can climb onto next to the mezzanine stairs

Now tell me how to get past the black guy and his gang of Mexicans.

the prisoners?

take an uzi, get a gallon of O.J. in case you need some health like TVC, and then take the black guy out first, take the gun off of the back of the jeep, shoot the driver, and then then the next driver. Then shoot the jeep until you run out of ammo. Then drive it around the lot until it's burnt out so much it won't drive. Other wise, if you don't destroy the jeep, they respawn.

umm there are no people to save in free mode.... I could explain how everything works but It would take ages. just keep playing the game, get your levels up try and do what you can, read some faqs if you need some gameplay tips/guidance, and just try and discover as much as possible for yourself, its such a wonderful game

fuck the reviewers who docked points becuase they 'didnt like the save system', its a fucking intentional deliberate gameplay mechaninc, the game would be as good without it, and 'wwahhhh wahhhh time limits', go fuck yourselves, games journalists, go play some hand holding tutorial 3D shit

scenester, it's not the game journalists either. You wouldn't believe the number of people who don't like DR for those same exact reasons

I keep coming back to this game, I LOVE CARRYING OVER MY PREVIOUS LEVELS, too awesome, even if you suck like me you can beat the game and be super strong!!!

The two accomplishments I'm still going after are the Kill 10,000 Zombies one (Zombie Genocider seems a bit too excessive and annoying), Karate Champ, and Hella Copter (have to wait for it to get light outside before I can shoot it down).

I don't think I can get the "Save everyone" achievement, the AI is too shit or I'm not patient enough to make lots of zombait.

i did the Kill 10,000 Zombies with the Zombie Genocider achievement, don't think i did Karate Champ one though.

as for Hella Copter, best place is after the 3 days over, when the police gets all over the areas you know.

go to the field where the convicts usually hang out, you can see a helicopter there iirc, stand on one of the sunshades (?) and shoot.

hella copter was pretty annoying, yeah I killed a whole lot soldiers, got like 6 machine guns (you'll need 600 bullets lolz), then you stand on the awning and shoot the fucker until you get the Accomplishment (lol, that words gonna stick!)

omg I got some online Gears co-op accomplishments tonight

Karate Champ actually isnt too hard If you just actively try to fuck up zombies with moves while youre doing other achievments

I did a run where I got: gourmet, sharp dresser, clothes horse, karate champ and a couple of others in one game

took an hour or two, not too bad

Accomplishments add a fuckload of longevity to DR, esp. if you wanna go hardcore and leave your 360 on for 14 hours + for the 7 day survivor one

I really want to play this game but I watch my friends play, and the lengthy boss battles and escort missions look like they'd get me so frustrated...

I think you'll love it, Tiesto.  I agree with Himuro; it's the best game on the 360 still.  The Dragon Quarter team worked on it.  Regarding excort missions, the key is to arm your escorts, use markers, and bring tons of health items.  There are more detailed faqs on excelling in the escort missions on the net as well.  Also, your character is underpowered intentionally.  They designed the game to be played over and over and your levels carry over to the new game as well.

Gamespot was the only major site that gave it the honor it deserved--GOTY.  Kasavin :bow.  Reviewers really gave this game a bad rap.  Thankfully, it didn't effect sales and a sequel is guaranteed.

Rman - yeah, I take solace in the fact that out of the friends I saw play the game... one of them was just screwing around trying on clothes and beating down zombies, and the other one of them generally stinks at any game that's not a 2D fighter (but he's pretty awesome at those) :lol

I really am attracted to the SOL style system in the game, did you (or anybody else in this thread) need to restart a lot to get through the game?

Yeah.  I restarted a lot.  A fully leveled Frank makes the game very fun.

I beat it without restarting once, just focus on the Cases, and save in the restrooms, so you can reload from there when you die at a boss

Escorting will definitely get you down if you approach it the wrong way.  The pathfinding is very bad and a lot of survivors have dumb little quirks where they prefer to cower in fear or live out a death wish and FIGHT THE ZOMBIES rather than follow your simple instructions and RUN.  Unless it's necessary, the survivors are better viewed as a low priority, particularly at lower levels when it might be more risky to get involved and help them out.  Those survivor achievements are a serious bitch.

This game chiefly relies on HOW you try to play (early on, most importantly) if you're to derive some enjoyment from it and I don't think it's immediately obvious just how this is done, especially in this era of excessive spoonfeeding.  And it doesn't really follow any standard genre procedure.  After you 'get' it, though, it can be a helluva lot of fun.
