apparently the 360 and PS3 are boring but the Wii is "fun." it just is!!

are we still talking about Wii Sports exclusively or is there a second casual-friendly mass-market success yet?

as near as I can tell "Wii" is used interchangeably with "Wii Sports" in lala mainstream journo land

it's so weird to me not just that the Wii is selling so awesome blossomly but that it is effectively a Pong-level dedicated single game machine

and that nobody seems to be aware there are no other magically grandma friendly non-games for it in their rush to demand Sony and Microsoft drop everything and copy Nintendo's, uh, business model? Of one game.

its completely fucked up, but mainstream media likes to just cotton onto some idea and just bounce it around for a while, thats why the Wii is still being touted as exciting and shit... actually I dont have a clue whats going on. Clearly most people dont know shit about games

well, the Wii is still selling

it would be tempting to say Nintendo is "doing something right" but they haven't done anything at all since they launched the product over a year ago

qft

maybe they just assume that other games are as good/ popular as Wii Sports? they see plenty of colourful titles on the shelf at stores, they think 'wow if the free pack in is this fun, stuff you pay for must be great too'

since the angle of the article has been plagarised over and over from articles dating back to the Wii launch, they dont bother to do any research/ check if other game indeed so exist etc.

You'll note that in the linked Esquire article not one actual game title is mentioned

I did notice that! and that's part of why I made this thread. it seems like everybody's playing Wii Zeitgeist!

I predict Spielberg's jenga rip off will be the next big Wii game. Its colorful, casual friendly, and has a big familiar name attached to it.

If not for the various download services, this generation would be completely disappointing thus far for me.

Absolutely.  Nintendo opted to "stay" in the last generation, so I'm not even counting them.  But it's definitely the online that has made this gen, especially with Xbox Live.
