ADD/ADHD Discussion
« on: August 03, 2006, 01:59:04 AM »
I was diagnosed at an early age with ADHD. Up until the past few years, I hadn't been able to recognize the symptoms.

I'm VERY restless, especially when laying down to go to sleep.

My attention span lasts about 5 seconds before I forget what I'm talking about.

I seem to have been very impulsive, even questioning my actions after the fact.

It had stressed me quite a bit for awhile and I have taken medicine, but I REFUSE to take medicine anymore. Especially with all the information coming out on all the different types of medication for ADD/ADHD.

ADD/ADHD is not a disease, it's more of a personality trait. I probably have what doctors/psychiatrists call ADD, but really, you learn how to deal without becoming a Ritalin zombie. Not to mention, it's quite useful in many different professional fields. If ADD were a negative thing you think there would be so many famous/successful people that have it?

If the whole lack of concentration thing really bothers you taking a multi-vitamin, Ginkgo Biloba, and B-vitamin complex daily really helps with focus issues. I know it's really helped with my mental acuity.

And for the people that point to the kids that REALLY can't control their behavior and act violent all the time... that shit ain't ADD. It's called straight up distinguished mentally-challenged. Damaged goods. Put the little fucker down and sell his organs.

QFT man, QFT.

I was an Adderall zombie until sophmore year in high school... they upped my dosage and it made me suicidal. I stopped taking that shit, and instantly I had like 20 more friends because I was that much more outgoing.

ADD is totally personality... psychologists made it up to (a) make money and (b) give parents something to blame besides their own bad parenting for their kids' behavior. Sort of how the government is trying to do shit with violent video games right now. They don't want to blame the parents for being shitty parents, so they blame the video game companies.

That'a a big problem with this country these days. We'd rather blame something else besides the actual cause of our problems.

Get your anger out more thoroughly?  Do ritalin and dopamine increase the amount of dopamine?

I started taking Ritalin a few weeks ago (Ritalin LA), and I don't feel like a zombie at all... still feel restless, don't now how much good it's going me, but I wish I could just take them and do really well in school, zombie or not...

it's 10mg, and I usually take two a day (6-8 hrs. apart)...

I had such hi hopes when I started, but I still get distracted easily, can't follow conversations, and my mind is everywhere... maybe it's helped a little bit (or maybe it's a placebo effect and I think I'm doing better but I'm not), but I can't really tell a major difference...

I had taken Ritalin and many other medicines as well.

I had forgotten to mention that along with ADHD, I was diagnosed with ODD as well, which supposively only allowed me to see a neurologist for my medicine.

It got to the point where I took 4 different medicines just to counteract the side effects of the one before it. It ended up making me sleep about 16 hours a day, and you can see why I quit that.

I'm ADHD

I deal with it, I was on Ritalin and it made me VERY angry, I wanted to fight everyone and everything, not a good time.

I was on a combo of paxil/adderal to combat the adhd and depression, goin on and coming off that combo makes you feel uber shitty for a good week.

I dont have proper insurance so I'm off them atm due to the high cost. But I do manage, paying attention is the harest thing to cope with.

If I land this new job I'm going for I'll go back on the adderal, if only to deal with my attention span, as it does help.

There's no such thing as ADHD. It's just the after effect of children not getting spankings from their parents at a young age. Not paying attention? Let me beat your ass for a couple minutes and then see what's up.

Growing up in an Irish family, I'm here to tell you that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
