Disappointing that so far the world is pretty linear when you get the ship but other than that OMG

You know that really bright white ring in the inner part of the ring right after the first outer ring? Aim for that.

Like, I recently mixed my poison ring with a few other rings to make a ring that not only poisons enemies, but also does critical damage more often, and heals some hp when ever I hit an enemy. That shit is straight out of FFX and very similar to its weapon and armor system. Still, there's nothing as cool as say, making your sword Stone based, adding a counter attack ability to your character, and then STONING EVERY ENEMY YOU COUNTERATTACK like FFX. But hey, who knows.

tell me how you did this.  i don't want to look at a FAQ so that i play this and do it alone, which means i may have missed something.  i thought you could only mix rings with the ring mixing guy who puts a couple together and gives you a new one with both stats mixed.  or did you mean you have one person with a poison ring, one with critical, etc.  i'm worried that i may have missed how to combine rings by myself.

anyway, gotta go to work.  i'll play when i get home.

At Numara there was a hidden shop that you had to get to via pass word. In that shop, there is a guy who combines rings for you for free.

re: Funeral towards end of Disc 1

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I enjoyed the sequence and how it affects the remaining characters. But the premise seems silly to me - a little girl survives jumping off a cliff? She looks really young, yet remembers details of Kaim's personality and immortality? Kaim didn't look for her body in the water? The girl didn't come back up to their home after getting out of the water and run into her parents? Did her parents just bail out within hours?

I dunno. Does the game fill in some of the gaps there, or is this little story over and done with and I just need to take it at face value?

No further spoilers, just wondering if more info is filled in later about where this girl went after jumping in the water.

btw that torch thing was easy as shit, I thought it was purposeful too.

I'm confused about this as well. It makes no sense. What happen to Kaim and Sarah after the fact?
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Did Gongora kidnap her and take her away or what? How did Gongora get her in the first place if she jumped off the cliff? Why'd she jump off the cliff in the FIRST place? Was she influenced by Gongora's magic?

Well, it was definitely his magic that made her do it. I don't know why he wouldn't kidnap her or some shit though.

Maybe the words she whispered to Kaim will be revealed later and shed some light on it, and then I'm sure Sarah's introduction will give us info about how they parted. It just seems like if she lived she'd be back home within a day.

BTW, spooky old mansion! Every RPG needs a good spooky old mansion.

Not really, a little more than halfway iirc. You still have 1.5 cities and a dungeon after you finish your time on the ship.

If the encounter rate were as high as Blue Dragon's, it might be a problem.  Not having random combat every 30 seconds is pretty awesome.

And what's this crystal shit?  Did I miss something?

Also, the beginning of disc 2 is striking me as kind of lame.  I am guessing it picks up again soon.

The guy is on the city-side of that big long bridge, first house, right next to the save point. Gives you the Life Brooch (or something) which ups HP by 10%. Like Himuro said, kick open all 19 glowing purple mushroom shits in the forest.

edit: Oh well. Apparently you can get any item you missed at auction houses later, dunno if that counts for busywork shit like that.

Who do you guys use in your party once you have more than 5? I'm planning on dumping all of Mack's moves on Seth so I can scrap him and throw in

My party looks like this.

Front:

Kaim - Warrior (No battle skills at all, just owning fools with elemental and species rings)
Seth - Thief/Assassin (Run away skill, steal, doesn't use elemental or species rings, mostly atk + or critical + rings like Herculean ring)
Mack - Monk (Uses skills and spirit magic for buffs. Rarely use attack with Mack so I don't equip a ring on him)

These three all have abilities or some way to increase GC, they're my tanks.

Back:

Jansen - Red Mage (never attacks, only uses magic or defends. Maybe I should put the GC charge while defending accessory on my guys in the back?)
Cooke - White Mage (bad ass spunky girl is bad at combat but my main healer. She's also an important asset for Jansen, my magic offense guy. She helps make magic attacks that would normally take 2 turns to cast 1 turn to be cast. Awesome.)

Now that I know that Ming's accessory will let Jansen cast composite magic on all enemies, there's no need for her!

I knew someone would say that.

It took me like 20, and it was the worst 20 minutes I've played of the game. Why is it in the game? To check off some point on an RPG cliche list? There's a lot of reasons why it's bad, suffice to say it doesn't need explanation.

It just doesn't fit in with the mechanics of the rest of the game.

Their viewing range isn't ever made entirely clear-- for example, I think I got caught like four or five times on the first freaking bot because I was never really sure where it could see me. And there is a point later where the red tiles on the scaffolding just appear (and you're usually sprinting) so you have to start all over.

Jansen getting everyone out of the cage is cute-- certainly. But the segment in general is just really incongruous.

I mean the "captured heroes" them was ripped right from FFX...even the circular suspend cage bit.

Sort of reminds me of FF7's "signal to your party to advance" in the Shinra tower. Is it long? No. Is it fun? Not really. I'm kind of fearing the funeral stuff for that reason.

I thought it brought you in to the experience of the funeral, and it was cool to have the different people make their remarks. I could see it being disruptive if you couldn't nail the mechanics, but when it goes smoothly (ie when you're a capable person) its rather immersive.

Hmm. If you trust Bebpo/Duckroll:

Music: BD

I personally like LO's music better so far, but they are different types of scores...
