The Halo 3 CE was a debacle and cost retailers thousands of dollars. The Viva Pinata plastic packaging was equally as distinguished mentally-challenged. Now you've gone and fucked up Lost Odyssey. Who is in charge of packaging? Please fire them.

Hey, Panzer Dragoon Saga, one of the best 32-bit RPGs ever, came in sleeves. Sleeves = quality RPG

I didn't preorder but managed to get a copy by driving to like 7 EBs on opening day. Fortunately, they had two--so my friend who was Vision Questing with me could get one as well. otherwise, we would have deathmatched right there in the middle of the EB

The disc never fell out of the VP packaging, I never had an issue with the VP packaging.

I had tons of issues with the Viva Pinata packaging at the store. The flimsy plastic was barely a case; they wouldn't close properly, the contents would constantly come out if we gutted them and sealed them back together and even the sealed ones popped open after awhile.

Why did we gut them? The same reason we gut all games - there has to be a display case on the floor for all the games we have. You guys might not care, but if casual folks (Wii Grandmas!) come in and don't see a case, they cruise right on out.

I flipped one of my PDS copies for like 120 bucks. I still have a copy back in PA, and 2 copies of Silvergun. If only I had a working Saturn.

It's the only system I think kind of sticks, because it always shafts whomever buy the last copy, but there aren't a whole lot of alternatives. I guess the only real alternative is to make the walls some kind of hard plastic or glass cases that we could put the games behind. Kind of like Target, but on a larger scale. But then you can't pick up the case, which is apparently important to most folks who visit a GameStop.

Things like what the back of the box looks like, how thick the instruction manual is, and whether or it's in full color play a vital role in my game purchasing decisions.

Gutting boxes is the reason I don't buy new games off the shelf at EB/gamestop. Half the fun is in cracking it open and taking a big wiff. I've noticed different games have their own distinct smell: Oblivion smelled exactly like magic cards, DMC4 was sickly sweet, Halo 3 smelled like an expensive glossy magazine.

The logical alternative is to sell that last copy as used instead of new, since it's been gutted.

Too complicated. Stores will lose or run out of coupons. There will be no way to see factory sealed and store sealed games on a receipt or anything.

And there's nothing there for a lawsuit. The contents are never used and are re-sealed in some form, with either shrinkwrap or those awful stickers (I shrinkwrap 'em).

Again, the whole presentation of the store has to be changed to accomodate a gut-less new game system. I'd really like to see a think tank work on fixing that problem for folks. Bottom line, outside of folks on message boards, which GameStop doesn't really accomodate anyway, people don't mind. They'll buy it anyway. So brass is unlikely to change something the majority of their customers don't complain about. It just irks me as a gamer.

Well let's just say those are poisonous PVC fumes inside all those jewel green boxes, it doesn't mean those noxious fumes don't smell fantastic.

You're exactly right, PD Saga came in a standard Saturn game case with a place for one disc. The other three were in sleeves with little notches cut in the side so the sleeves would stay in place in the case.

There was nothing particularly dangerous about the packaging in my opinion. I haven't felt the need to take my Saga and put it somewhere safer.
