Anyone else remember Willco before he sold out to Sony?
« on: February 15, 2008, 01:40:22 PM »
Jesus, i've never seen so much manufactured anecdotal evidence and irrelevant factoids for a console that has yet to prove itself in its capabilities as a GAME machine. I swear its like listening to a press release.

I'd rather he support Wii. At least it has games in the top 10 and sells a lot of hardware. Supporting Sony at this point in time makes no sense.

So, when did MS suddenly become good for gaming? What have they done this generation to change their shitty reputation? Their GFW program pretty much sums up their contribution to gaming in general.

It's funny. I remember many Sega/Xbox fans claiming that PS2 last gen sales were inflated because of system defects. Those same people are remarkably quiet this generation.

I dunno released awesome games and the best featureset for the console? I loved PS2 because it had tons of awesome games and now I love 360 because it has tons of awesome games. adurr

Did PS2 have a wide-spanning free replacement program for its console?

I just think of MS as the lesser evil.

Reasons why Sony shouldn't win again:

1)Sony is PC gaming's biggest enemey because they promote every Playstation as some kinda supercomputer that can easily outperform any PC.

2)Hardware that's hard to program for, which doesn't outperform its rivals even when programmed properly.

3)They're followers not innovators as evidenced by their 1st party software and control pad design.

4)Sony holds the biggest reponsiblity for the bullshots and rampant fanboyism that have become staples of the gaming industry.

I wish PS3 was the only HD game in town so it could have fallen flat on its face and let Wii win this gen even worse.

I don't know, Groove, but fanboys have been around since the Atari days.  If and when Sony's gaming division dies, they will still be around.

But how many of those games are directly from MS? What exactly is a "featureset"? You mean the bells and whistles the console has as a media center?

To be fair, MS has opened up the console world to online gaming. But even that is a double edged sword, as they have charged the consumer for it and have opened up the pandora's box known as DLC.

Who cares if they came from MS? I like 360, not a corporation. In any case, MS has more good in-house games than Sony does at this point, and more and better third party exclusives, and better running third party games.

-XBLA
-XBL
-downloadable movies
-friend messages ingame, private chats, cross game invites, leaderboards
-custom soundtracks
-standard headset
-achievements

Wahh $3.18 a month for a superior service. I can afford it, so I don't care. If you think someone else wouldn't have come up with DLC if MS hadn't you're crazy. Meanwhile, to use your argument, it's mostly third parties abusing DLC. Free Gears shit, Halo shit that becomes free later on, I'm pleased. I'd rather have a world with avoidable crap DLC than a world without DLC at all.

I don't remember having to justify myself like this when PS2 was my favorite despite lacking 4 controller ports, a hard drive, built-in broadband, less power, integrated online, etc etc etc and its disc drives were constantly failing with no free replacement.

I wouldn't mind DLC if devs were just releasing new content because they went out of time.  Unfortunately, this is rarely the norm as publishers just use it as a way to milk more money.

Also, MS should stop charging for stuff like themes and icons.  Even Sony's not greedy enough to charge for stuff like that.

Why can't I sell out to Sony, everyone else is. :( Is there an application you have to fill out somewhere? All they'd have to do is send me a free PS3 (80 Gig, plz) and I'd shill like crazy for them. Uncharted is the most amazing game ever, it's glorious textures aren't possible on the SUXbox 360. PLAYSTATION®3's 2008 lineup is the possibly the best of any console ever, 2008 is the Year of the PLAYSTATION®! Once the PLAYSTATION®3 gets HOME® and LITTLE BIG PLANET®, the PS2 gets WAGGLESHOCK®2 controllers, and the PSP gets Crisis Core, Sony will dominate all aspects of the gaming industry. Nintendo and Microsoft to become irrelevant by the end of the year. :bow :bow

My reserve list is ridiculous.  It's easily something like 11 Xbox 360 releases (not including stuff likes Gears of War 2 or Banjo Threeie), 3 PC releases (Spore, Starcraft 2 and Left 4 Dead) and 3 PS3 releases (Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet and Resistance 2).  I really can't find anything else on the PS3 to pre-order.  The lineup is pretty overrated.  I figure I'll nab MLB 08: The Show, Eye of Judgment and a free copy of Uncharted off Sony's retail support site, and I'll be content until Metal Gear Solid 4.

Yea, but those 3 PS3 games probably have like 1000 preorders.

- pay for online play

- pay for stupid shit like themes/wallpapers/icons/demos

- library is roughly the same as PC, not enough niche or 'console' titles

- RED RING OF DEATH

you forgot

-stupid drm

-paying extra for accessories (hdds, wifi)

besides, a system being hard to program for doesn't really affect gamers. ps2's games, for example, evolved with the years as with any system. if the devs have to work with it, they will and that's what matters for us.

without going into list wars zomg, microsoft is as much of an 'innovator' as sony too, at least as far as i can actually remember.

and saying sony has the worse fanboys when nintendo fans are doing viral for a system they don't even like makes no sense, not to mention the history nintendo fans have already, or how the xbox fanboys have a heart attack about any sightly positive sony news/conversation. talk about rose-tinted glasses.
