PSP in 08
« on: February 16, 2008, 12:04:37 AM »
Are there any notable PSP game in 08 after FF:Crisis or God of War?  I've wanted to upgrade to a PSP slim for awhile.

Maf's mad shopping spree makes me want to go get it this weekend.  But I feel kinda guilty about spending so much money on games after having bought $1000 worth of PC upgrades just last month.

I would feel better about the purchase if there's gonna be a bunch of good PSP games this year.

Is it worth a $200 upgrade if I don't play any emulated stuff?  Is the new screen better?  I see a lot of ghosting when I play Castlevania on the fatty.

The screen is the same shit. The DPad is way better though, it's raised and has more resistance and it works alot better, but the diagonals are so easy to pull off you end up doing them accidentally. The UMD tray is pretty poopy, but whatever.

I wish Sony had actually redesigned the PSP instead of just shaved some fat off of it, I hate the design to death.

I don't have a problem with the fatty's D-pad as I just put a 3rd party stick-on D-pad on top of it.

My main concern with upgrading is that support for the PSP will be dead by the end of this year.  There'll be massive price cuts on hardware if that happens.

How could anyone hate the PSP's design?

I like the fatty, I'd like it to be lighter but not really thinner.

I hate the analog slider.  It's the one thing that I wish Sony had change completely with the slim.

The stick is garbage, it really constricts my purchases for the system. I fucking hate playing any 3D game on the thing.

Well I have problems with the fact that a ton of buttons are smashed into the bottom row, and it looks really bad, on top of the system just having a strange shape in general. I'm also not a very big fan of using glossy plastic, and after I found out that the Silver PSP Slim is still glossy but you can't see prints because of the texture it's injected with, I wore a big frown. I mean it feels greasy and slippery, and if it gets cold it feels like you're holding a slab of ice.

Shit's GAY, son.

I am a huge MGS fan but I gave up 1/3 through Portable Ops 'cause of the analog nub.  I take it the slim's nub is no better?

Too bad it makes games almost unplayable.

The only games that get any time on my PSP use the dpad for control.

Just Sony. They don't know how to do analog anywhere.

I actually wonder if handhelds can pull off decently working analog sticks without looking like complete garbage.  I was thinking they could implement something like the classic controller, but then the thing would look stupid.

To be honest, I hate the analog stick on the psp, but it does what its meant to do.  Have you guys tried the analog nub replacements?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a slim & lite PSP (specifically that sexy new Char's Custom PSP that was released last week with the PSP Gihren's Greed game) but I dunno if it's worth it...I mostly want to do it because playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is HARRRRD with the regular PSP's d-pad.

NGPC

What replacements?

All they have to do is carve a hole into the unit (it's thick enough) and put an actual stick in it, even though only the tip of it will be exposed just like the nub. Then you'd get some angle to it. Making it a fucking slider was about as far from that as you can go.

I actually had to look up ngpc, no idea what that was.  Yeah, I would love that analog stick alot better.  The replacements I was talking about is where you take the honeycomb nub off and replace it with a bigger rubber stick.  It feels alot better since you don't slip everywhere, although it's still not as good as a decent stick.
