I just got invited to a little birthday party but I don't think I'm gonna go. I'm not a drinker and would look like a total taco if I showed up there and didn't drink anything. Also I'm kinda nervous overall since I don't speak anymore with the girl who invited me since she is not at my school anymore, and I don't know any of her friends and it would be awkward to sit in the middle of strangers. Yup I'm gay.

So you don't particularly want to go and you don't know the people that will be there? Sounds like a good enough reason not to go to me. You're not gay, you just don't want to waste your free time.

pretty much. if you think it's going to be awkward, it's not a bad reason to go. Why would someone willingly put themselves in that situation?

BTW, you can go to parties and not drink and MOST people won't care. Parties are for socializing, not necessarily for drinking.

This makes sense, but there is a part inside me that still wants to go. I don't socialize that much these days anymore and this would be a good oppertunity I think.

I dunno, there's nothing worse than being in the middle of a clique that you aren't a member of. If you have anxieties about socialization, such an episode might exacerbate the issue rather than helping it. When friends get drunk together, they tend to get really in-jokey, too.
