Speaking of birthdays, my moms birthdays is the 23rd. She's really mad at me for ruining this past weekend with not wanting to goto dinner at 9pm(I was watching house for the first time ever).

You think OUATITW>TGTBTU? One of my friends got it for me mainly because we argue over that all the time. He says OUATITW is a better film, and the best western, while I'm more on the fence. Both are classic, and I'd agree OUATITW's score/music is better...but I give TGTBATU a slight edge because it's paced better imo. I'll watch both films back-to-back this weekend hopefully and make my final decision

One is very much a comic booky-type pure Spaghetti movie with a lot of great action setpieces, the other is sort of an ode to the end of the mythical West, filled with intertextual references to classic Westerns.

I'd agree about scene composition. There are some truly amazing shots throughout; granted, both films are beautiful in that sense but OUATITW seems almost operatic to me

That's from the DVD. That's Sir Christopher Frayling, Leone's biographer and also a writer of a number of books on the Spaghetti Western phenomenon. He's the leading expert on the genre, and the rector of the Royal College of Art in London.

His Leone bio, "Something To Do With Death," is really excellent. It's OOP but I recommend it highly. Grab a used copy off Amazon if you can.
