Musou Orochi/Warriors Orochi PSP: Portable Musou Perfection
« on: February 20, 2008, 04:06:27 AM »
This is an awesome port.  Koei crammed EVERYTHING into the PSP version, and I can now confirm that you now play on the full game maps instead of the smaller, broken-up areas of the previous portable Musou games.  The opening cinemas remain intact too, as do character and weapon upgrading.  The game's real time cut scenes have been replaced with stills, presented comic book style, but with full voice. This is pretty much the only change I'm seeing so far.  Character switching is done by hitting left or right on the D-Pad.  Other than that, it controls exactly the same, too.  I'm tempted to throw this on my fat PSP and try out the 2P, too...

The rip I'm playing off of (game comes out tomorrow!) has zero load times.  I'll try the real thing out tomorrow and see how it loads and fares when not at 333mhz.  Right now it's running buttery smooth.

You still planning on picking up the PS3 port of Lost Planet, too? I'm really curious how the final version turned out.

LOL, the rip is messed up and crashes the PSP if you play the Wei campaign.  ANGRY PIRATES AM HERE  :lol

Yeah, I think so.  I have 2000 points on my point card to Yamada Denki, which means 2000 yen off anything I buy there, so that helps to make the price much more attractive.

Nice. I've got $10 in Best Buy Rewards certificates, and a $3 off coupon, so LP will end up costing me $23. Not a bad deal.

I don't have a problem with the way DW2 and Samurai Warriors play on PSP, but it is awesome having the full playfield back.  It also seems like there's more enemies on-screen than in previous titles.  Besides the worse graphics and draw in, it's the same game as the console versions.  That's both good and bad I suppose.

that's cool stuff, but i still won't buy a portable system.  hopefully it will get orochi's awesomeness out to a bigger audience.

Basically the same, but there did seem to be more enemies on screen compared to before.  I think the draw-in, while horrendous in the other games, is more apparent here, but that's because it's replicating entire maps instead of smaller areas more devoid of detail.  All of this is forgivable since this is a portable game though, and it keeps the frame rate at a smooth level.

A hacked PSP would suit you well.  Tons of your favorite stuff all on one compact handheld that you can play anywhere, and you can even hook it up to your TV!  Just having the entire Neo-Geo library alone makes it worth it.

My fatty PSP isn't hacked as I didn't want to be tempted by the lure of easy piracy.

Now I don't even care.  I'll borrow a Pandora from someone when I have time to do the hack.

One man can't save a system.  Regardless of how many more PSP games I buy, I'm almost certain there'll be no more PSP games after this year.

Whether it's a good port or not, I can guarantee your money is probably better spent on something else.  After the first 3-4 levels, Lost Planet is more like I'm Glad This Planet Was Lost.

TVC, Lost Planet looks pretty sweet in DX10.  At "greater than 1080P".

But it's still going to be a terrible game!  DX10 and greater than 1080p won't fix the unfun levels.

I liked Lost Planet on 360.  Yes, even the single player  :o, but I spent a lot more time in multiplayer.  I never got to play the PC version, and I'd like to have the extra characters, so I'm buying it.  It also looks like the new character playable in the PS3 version, Luka, has new missions, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

Saw the PC version running on a nice set-up in store last week, too.  Pretty nice at maxed out settings, I thought.

TVC, do you still buy PSP games?  I know I teased you about downloading PSP games before but there really is no point in pumping money into a dead platform.

60fps at Max Settings w/4xAA in greater than True HDtm on my 2 x 8800 GTX setup.

Too bad the game doesn't hold my interest beyond the 1st level.

Honestly, I can't remember the last new game that came out that I cared about.  Probably Disgaea, and I did buy that.  I've nabbed the Euro version of Patapon, but it's up in the air for a purchase now.  I will probably skip GoW entirely since the previous 2 games didn't really impress me--I think I beat the first 2 levels in each and then quit.

As for Musou, well, I have purchased previous Musou games for the PSP, and what with the piles of shit those were, I fuckin' deserve to steal this one.

The PSP's software sales are dismal.  People buy new PSPs but they mostly just pirate PSP games or use their PSPs to play old roms.

Looking at the PSP's sparse lineup in 08, most publishers seemed to have given up on selling games to PSP owners.

After Drohne made that thread about his upgrade to a Slim, I was really itching to get one too.  However,  I think I'll just stick with the fatty until the big price cut comes along.   I honestly don't see how the PSP's going to survive beyond this year.  Even if the PSP doesn't die, few of its upcoming games interest me enough to spend $200 on a Slim upgrade.

ds and psp just don't do it for me especially after HD gaming and the ps and xbox arcades with sidescrollers and shooters.  without old style games, stuff i can just buy on my 360 now, there is no point to a handheld.

Isn't it even easier to pirate games for the DS?  Why does no one ever mention this?

Back on topic, Musou Orochi definitely runs better off the memory stick.  It's a bit smoother, and the load times are much short.  I'd say it's about 9 seconds to the pre-battle screen, then another 9 seconds to the map.  Off the memory stick, this is cut down to about 2 seconds.   :o

Handhelds get their own exclusive games.  Plus there's the whole gaming anywhere thing.
