Universal Pictures has announced a six-year partnership with Hasbro to produce at least four feature films based on branded properties.

The properties include “Monopoly,” “Candy Land,” “Clue,” “Ouija,” “Battleship,” “Magic, The Gathering” and “Stretch Armstrong.”

The Ouija movie will probably be the first to get made, since it will most likely be some cheap PG-13 ghost movie aimed at teenagers. It will likely star some semi-famous kid from a popular  TV show. I could see maybe Miley Cyrus starring in it or maybe someone from The Suite Life, maybe Lindsey Lohan if she plays her cards right. It will gross $20 in it's first weekend, and top off at about $45-50 Million on a $15 Million budget, and then get an Unrated Edition DVD, and then a direct-to-video sequel that doesn't star any of the original cast.

I'm thinking they should make it like a 1940's "It's a Wonderful Life" type movie, and Mr. Potter controls the whole town and all Jimmy Stewart has is a Savings and Loan over on Marvin Gardens, and he's starting to think about dropping out of the game, but then through a series of miraculous happenings, he manages to get Boardwalk and Park Place with hotels and then he's like:

"Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about, they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? My father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book he died a much richer man than you'll ever be, bitch!"

Monopoly has specific ideological roots actually.

In 1903, the Georgist [follower of Henry George] Lizzie Magie applied for a patent on a game called The Landlord's Game with the object of showing that rents enriched property owners and impoverished tenants. She knew that some people would find it hard to understand the logic behind the idea, and she thought that if the rent problem and the Georgist solution to it were put into the concrete form of a game, it might be easier to demonstrate. She was granted the patent for the game in January 1904. The Landlord's Game became one of the first board games to use a "continuous path," without clearly defined start and end spaces on its board.[4] A copy of Magie's game, dating from 1903–1904, was discovered for the PBS series History Detectives. This copy featured property groups, organized by letters, later a major feature of Monopoly as published by Parker Brothers.[5]
