Also, MS announced last year it was coming this year (alternating yearly releases with Halo).

Also, it was obvious Gears 2 was coming to anyone with half a brain, so most Gears fans even.

Gears is good. I don't know for sure where you guys got the idea that it was supposed to be the most awesome game ever in every way but you should probably give less of a crap about what you read on forums.

I just want the sequel to have big battles, more bosses, destructible environments actually used often to kill enemies, have actually useful squad commands, and maybe have the allies be in different classes so it matters who you send to do what type of thing (artillery, sniper, engineer classes for example). Seriously, as long as it still has tight level design, gratuitous violence, and a decent amount of new features I'll be happy. The graphics should also get a decent bump but I'll forgive 30 fps for a game like this.

You know why R6V is better? Environmental interaction and more than 4 good guns. Gears looked better, but it was like being in a still museum where very little reacted to your shooting. In R6V, the world exploded around you.

Yes, R6:V's arsenal was somehow the most interesting despite being the most realistic game of the three.

Rainbow 6 has always been a great series. It was the first Clancy game, and thus the one that gave it the credibility to convince us to try others.

Are you kidding? While I can understand why the mechanic died, I loved being able to map out the mission beforehand, and then review the mission flow afterwards. The big complaint (and it was a biggie at the time) was no on-screen gun. That and the visuals weren't impressive for 1998.
