This is just part of internal restructuring to take advantage of the PS3's upward momentum.  Phil just couldn't hack it.

i figure it went something like this

stringer: 'that harrison is sharp. only competent man we've got in the playstation division.'

assistant: 'yes...looks like a penis, though.'

stringer: 'you know, he...shit, now i can't unsee it. tell him i want his resignation on my desk by monday.'

Good luck to Phil. I always thought he was one of the most likable industry execs. His body of work at Sony is impressive. Sad to see the end of an era for a guy whose been in SCE since its inception.

Damn, I wish I could've been a fly on the wall for the meeting that spurred this move.

i keep wondering when someone is going to actually do something with atari instead of just continually pissing on the brand name

atari has a deep brand name recognition they haven't been able to kill over the decades, although they've certainly tried - for a lot of folks in their mid 30s, the atari name still resonates, a casual games rebranding of the name seems to fit

Poor guy.  Going from Sony to Atari is a pretty huge downgrade.  MS should try to hire him.  Harrison would be invaluable just for the secrets and connections that he knows.

God, how bad must Sony be that going to Atari looks like a good career move?!

What does Atari do nowadays?  Do they still develop games?  They published Witcher but I think it was made by some other company.

Atari sealed the deal with VIP tickets to the next Monsters of Rock festival.

Is the move already confirmed?  I still think it'll be a good move for MS to hire him.

yeah, that's pretty funny.
I thought Atari had a really precarious standing.  It sounded like, at least to me, that they've bet the farm on their upcoming slate kicking ass or else.  I would expect them to fold like a cheap suit if Alone in the Dark tanks.

I thought I remembered hearing this too. Maybe they're putting the last of their money into winning over Harrison so they can restore stockholder faith or have him re-organize their company?

It all seems weird.

apparently the main reason for his termination is because he's been letting ms pick up some hot european properties that sony's been interested in for quite some time

btw  he got fired cos he lost mgs4 exclusivity. apparently konami told their sony their deciision to make the game multi, and that was the last straw. he lost dmc4, gta4, assasins creed, and he just had to go.
expect a konami announcement in the next few days

I still have doubts about MGS4 appearing on the 360.  Even if it did, I wouldn't be surprised if it totally sucked ass like the port of MGS2 for the Xbox.

I can understand a perfunctory port to Xbox 1, given it's small userbase relative to the PS2 at the time. I can't see them short-changing the 360 version though. They need it to be a hit, and when has that happened this gen anyway? Even Burnout Paradise ended up pretty much on par with PS3.
