without backward compatability, the ps3 is useless to me.  why would i want to keep my ps2 hooked up?  i don't have the space for that.  i use my ps2 to play ps1 games all the time.  if i couldn't do that with the ps3 i'd feel like i wasted all that money on those games that i can't play.  and the state of my old ps1 is pretty shabby although i took good care of it.  things get old, and when my ps2 does i don't want to have to buy another one when i should be able to use the ps3.

thank christ i own zero xbox games because if i did i'd be pissed about my 360.

I don't think it's a big deal.  I seriously doubt we'll get any more BC after this gen.   Sony made a poor decision by promising something that they couldn't afford to fulfill and MS just kinda went along.  Both companies have probably realized that the costs assoicated with BC or the bad publicity for poor implementation is just not worth it.

Are you serious?  That's a pretty big risk to take.  It could either help or deal another huge blow to the PS3.  I think it's better if Sony just forget about it.  As the Sixaxis have shown, Sony knows nothing about motion controls.

The 40GB models are going to be software backwards compatible at some point, as well.  It doesn't really matter.  The bundle is a good deal for the extra HD space and copy of Metal Gear Solid 4, though.
