made by Tetsuya Takahashi and the Xenosaga team

starring Chrono and Sephiroth, which sp0rsk is currently spooging over.

This game, based on the videos, looks REAL awesome - flows nicely, good graphics, variety of combat styles/weapons, Mitsuda music

. I'm itchin' for a good ARPG since the Kingdom Hearts series is ass, and the Mana series dropped the ball majorly.

Tales games aren't ARPGs.

Tales games have a weird RPG+fighting game system, which I HATE.

just beat the first dungeon
I went with the Assassin character, focus on martial arts and such.
I like the way all four face buttons are "attacks" and you can mix up your mashing.
I also really like the way they went with TINY characters--means they can fit three party members and multiple enemies on screen at once. camera zooms in as you strike.
still learning the combo/break system--not really necessary yet.

talent tree with multiple levels in each talent and 3 talent points per level = zomg let me touch u
FREE RESPECS, wow, Japanese developer does what Hellgate don't

100% skippable story, once you turn on "EVENT SKIP" in the options you just press Start during a cutscene and it INSTANTLY skips to the next playable section

Event Skip

Story:
In a world where the a magical energy source known as Soma drives the technology and daily lives of all its inhabitants, there lies a huge continent named Barnea. In recent years, the natural balance of Soma has been disrupted by the arrival of mysterious beings called Visitors. To investigate these occurances, Secundadeians - the organization that regulates Soma in the world, creates a military division to deal with these Visitors - the Pharzuph. The story follows the seven members of the 7th Division of the Pharzuph. What they discover on one of their missions will determine the fate of the world... HIT THINGS

there's even a good story log and quest log in case you skip something important (from a gameplay perspective, nothing can be important from a story perspective lol)

great music (Mitsuda, duh)

overall, pretty good so far, will definitely keep at it beyond this first dungeon.

Those are some nice impressions, Patel. I'll definitely keep an eye on this title. Can anyone comment on the story, though? I was hoping for something better than most of the DS's RPG offerings.

I watched some video on YouTube and the battle system does look fun. Graphics are pretty, and the music is great (Mitsuda:

). I am not a fan of the character designs, though. They look awful to me. RE wasn't kidding about Chrono and Sephiroth.

duckroll quite likes the story, but I'll be damned if I read a single word of it. that's why the game has a quest log.

I played a bit more...my only real complaint is that I wish enemy density was higher. hopefully that picks up in later acts.

No, but the maps get bigger! That's a ... yeah. Enemy population in this game is a huge fucking issue. I enjoyed it but outside of maybe playing some multiplayer with people once in a while I won't be touching it again.
