The reluctance of Japanese Companies to develop for the 360 is going to be the death of them. It doesn't even make sense financially for Square to release their 3rd rate properties for the 360 while keeping the top titles PS3 exclusive.

Well, realistically speaking, I don't think porting something like FFXIII to the 360 would help much. JRPGs are different beasts on 360 than something like DMC4, RE5, VF5 and whatever else was ported to it.

I've always believed that the gamers will come if you give them what they want. The "XBOX gamers don't like JRPGS" is kinda a self-fulfilling prophecy, imo. Japanese devs don't give the Xbox FF therefore the FF fans don't buy a Xbox. The fact that their far less popular franchises sold or will sell poorly on the Xbox isn't indicative that FF won't sell on a Xbox.

Also, I suspect that moving the lead SKU of one of Japan's most famous franchises to a console made by a non-Japanese company would be a pretty large PR hit and would piss off a looooooot of stockholders.

I think it's quite the opposite. This market has made so many transitions between leaders each generation that I think it's a very flexible market. Gamers will go where the games are.

In America they will. In Japan? When was the last time a non-Japanese made console was even within striking distance? Oh yeah, never.

As for my earlier comment, I don't doubt that release of FFXIII on 360 would cause the sale of a lot of consoles there... possible 300-400k of them the month the game comes out. Even with those extra sales and an assumed very high purchase rate among the currently installed user base that would be like, what... 1 million copies sold in Japan over the lifetime of the generation on the lead SKU? They'd still have to port it to another console to make any sort of financial sense.

Ugh, I just noticed that my point STILL isn't clear. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I think you could sell more copies of this game on PS3 in Japan if you released it today than 360, if you released it today. Even this game is not enough to push the JP 360 user base high enough to where it would outsell a PS3 version of the same game.

That said, I agree completely that a multiplatform release is sensible and agreeable to all. Unfortunately I suspect (as pretty much everyone else does) that SE has some kind of agreement with Sony to prevent this.
