So, I've got a college degree. I don't know what to do with it, but I've got one. Anyway, I'm job hunting for this weird 6-8 month interim before Peace Corps service and I found a job packing boxes in a warehouse. The catch? YOU MUST HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE. To pack boxes.

i'm jobhunting having finally given up on my crap job and there's a lot of law offices looking for tier one networking technicians

the catch? you have to have two years previous law firm experience.

how does one get an entry level job with two years experience?

While job hunting last summer, it seemed as if all employers really cared about was my lack of experience.

I just feel like. I was reading this Spalding Gray book and his Mom was just a Mom and his Dad was a salesman and they had a little beach house. My Mother's father never finished high school and was chief of police at the New York Port Authority.

It just feels like there used to be more opportunity than there is now. It bums me out.

The trouble with interning is it usually requires people to know what they want to do well ahead of time, which isnt the case for a good 60% of us

when I applied for my current position and even a past few positions, I was told experience was necessary, but I was able to get past it with contacts, good interviewing and great work history.

I've always been under the assumption that Experience >>>> Degree, with a minor in social networking to get your name out there

Unfortunately there's a lot of money wasted and time spent on bad hires, there's a reason theyre all so picky

That's what I always tell people -- if you want to get a job in the game industry, then start making games already. Somebody will eventually notice and hire you. Whining about how you'd like to make games and you wish somebody would hire you to make games ain't gonna get you nowhere.

My current job I actually got without extensive networking, but there's a lot to be said for keeping in touch with people in different parts of the industry. You never know when a crazy opportunity is gonna pop its head up!

I think it all depends on which industry you plan to work in. Some care about degrees and some don't.

I'm also looking for an interim job, from now until May, when I'll know enough about The Medical Manager to work in a medical office for half a year when I can do medical billing.

I've got an Associates Degree in general studies

But obviously I'm working on real stuff now; I only got the AA so I'd be done with electives and other bullshit classes before going to uni
