I chose if... just because early Malcolm McDowell is so fucking awesome.  Plus it's a good movie and has a really good transfer (if you're watching the Criterion version). Also which Insomnia (and Vanishing) are you referring too?

if you like coburn, check out The President's Analyst!

Quote
Dr. Sidney Schaefer (James Coburn), a psychiatrist, is chosen by the U.S. Government to act as the President’s top-secret personal psychoanalyst, against the advice of Henry Lux, the director of the all-male-under-5'6" Federal Bureau of Regulation (FBR). Dr. Schaefer is given a home in affluent Georgetown and assigned a comfortable office connected to the White House by underground tunnel. From these locations he is to be on-call at any/all hours to fit the President's hectic schedule. However, the President's Analyst has one problem: there is no one he can talk to about the president's ultra-top-secret and personal problems. As he steadily becomes overwhelmed by stress, Schaefer begins to feel that he is being watched everywhere (which is actually true) until he becomes clinically paranoid; he even suspects his sweet girlfriend Nan (Joan Delaney) of spying on him, which she is, as an agent of the Central Enquiries Agency (CEA).

Not really. Casino Royale '67 is one of the worst "spoofs" ever. Terrible movie. Now, if CR67 were legitimately awesome, then perhaps you would be right.

CR67 should rock, with all the talent. It just doesnt though. And Daniel Craig rocks. I dont mind shots at most of the Bonds (hell, I take tons at Moore and Brosnan all the time), but what has Craig done that is so wrong? Hes the best actor outside Dalton to play the part, and generally rocks all his roles, Bond or no.

Nah, get it used.  It looks really good if that's what you care about.

but what has Craig done that is so wrong?

He wasn't born as either Orson Welles or Peter Sellers.

I just bought Casino Royale on BD.

Ive been looking for it ever since I bought my PS3 a month or so ago. Im at the point now where Im just going to order it at Deep Discount or Amazon. I swear, no retail outlet in Alberta seems to carry it. Actually, there are 5-10 BDs that I want that I have yet to see in any brick and mortar. I really cant wait until another 1-2 years when BD has a much larger marketshare, and I dont need to feel like its work to try and find a certain disc.

my issue with the modern Casino Royale is that there was all this Sony-fan level hype about how they were REINVENTING THE BOND FRANCHISE and at the end of the day it was just another Bond movie--better acted and shot than most, but still, gadgets, girls, tuxes, martinis, stupid villains, etc.

Yeah, thats fucked up. Casablanca is one of the few films that truly deserves and lives up to every last bit of its reputation. Probably the best screenplay ever, too. I love all the supporting characters and actors, too. While Bogart is the fucking man and owns the film, I always gravitate towards Calude Rain's pitch perfect performance as Cpt. Renaud. One of the slyest comedic performances ever.

Such a great film though.

Ultimatum was fine! Even if the structure was similar to the other Bourne movies, Bourne's character has an arc across the entire trilogy that makes each movie have a purpose. And in any case, there's a difference between repeating yourself 3 times and repeating yourself 22 times.

Please explain the arc and purpose of Ultimatum to me, good sir! The filmmakers themselves didnt even know when the cameras rolled, and it shows in the form of more of the same. It actually feels like a greatest hits compilation of Identity and Supremacy. If Ultimatum were as fresh and creative as the first two films were, then I wouldnt even be arguing with you. But its not. Its an expertly crafted but creatively bankrupt curtain call.

So basically you don't have an answer, since you're deferring to some shitty article and the Academy awards? And lawlz at that article. How can it be the greatest American film trilogy ever when 1 of the films is a remake of the other 2, and when The Godfather 1 and 2 are each better than the entirety of the Bourne trilogy?

I have to go to work today and can't write as much of a rebuttal as I'd like (seriously, I know that sounds like a copout answer).

The short version is that while the structure of the Bourne movies are similar, the character of Jason Bourne actually changes and grows over the course of the trilogy. Bond is Bond is Bond. And Bond is boring.

I always considered The Boondock Saints to be the worst movie that white people inexplicably love, but hey, most any John Hughes movie would be a fine runner up.

While not totally correct, why didnt you just say this in the first place? I wouldnt have gone on a tangent if you'd said this. I might've argued that CR's Bond changed the stagnant Bond persona quite a bit, but other than that, I would have let it slide, as there is lots of truth in there, amidst some BS.

Basically though, Ill agree to disagree on this one.
