the 1:20AM update

30 Days of Night seems pretty keen so far.  No superlatives or big accolades, but it is a fun and rather attractively shot movie.  Pretty competently filmed with some actual nice shots sprinkled throughout.  The biggest surprise is that so far Josh Hartnett appears to not be terrible.

yeah, i was surprised by hartnett

he sort of reminded me of one of those small-town sheriffs from 70s horror movies

the ending is a bit cheesy, but i really liked the film overall

i'm so glad they trimmed all the bullshit from the graphic novel/series

I really enjoyed it but come on, there is NO FUCKING WAY those losers survived for 30 days, no way. Unless the undead hordes managed to live for hundreds of years of daywalker-slaying without ever encountering LOFTS before.

yeah, all the voodoo bullshit - gone.

all the needless vampire backstory - gone.

it's pretty much just a straight up vampires-fucking-up-a-town-full-of-people story in the movie.

well, they did make a point to say that the attic door was hidden, and they did move around a lot in the town.

I enjoyed the movie overall, but it was kind of really poorly paced, or the pacing wasn't messaged correctly.  You blink your eyes and it's already day 17.  And then an indiscernible amount of time passes and the month is over.  You could have told me this movie took place over the course of 1 night, and it would be just as cohesive a narrative as telling me it's 30 days.

Also the ending was really gay.  Other than that, I thought it was a decent lil' romp.  Buy it cheap or used.  It's a good looking movie.

Also, if you were in a situation akin to the one presented in the movie, why would you even try to save the distinguished mentally-challenged old man?  More trouble than its worth.  Dumbasses.
