The Wiimote is the best controller ever developed

I've been playing Mario Galaxy a lot and I just had to make a thread about this. The Wiimote with nunchuk is seriously, in my opinion, the best controller ever developed. So simple and precise, so many options, and so just freaking well made. It's brilliant. When used correctly, control in games has never been so perfect. It's sad to see developers choose graphics over gameplay, and it's easy to see why Nintendo is miles ahead of everyone this generation. Unfortunately nobody seems to want to wrap their brains around the wiimote and develop new and intuitive ways to play games, but the thing is just genius. So easy to use, yet so able to incorporate complex gameplay at the same time. I can't praise enough. Before it I thought the SNES controller would never be equaled, but Nintendo has done it again. Bravo. I hope Sony and Microsoft are taking notes.

well it's good in that it's non-centric and can be used in a lot of ways.  some games like mario galaxy and metroid prime 3 truly couldn't have worked on other consoles.  however, you need another console/controller to be able to control normal games well.  the lack of easy to press face buttons for example makes a game like ninja gaiden pretty much impossible with the wiimote.

I'm saying that it's non-centric, not that it's perfect for every genre.  the main reason it was good for galaxy was that you could use it for a lot of puzzles we've NEVER seen before in a game.  it was good in metroid prime 3 because you could look in any direction faster, choose what you want to scan more easily, and flip between visors very fast.  simply because you could waggle.  to say it's impossible for it to improve a game is wrong.

I like its ergonomics and I like not having to have my hands next to each other. I don't have much beef with its buttons, but if they added some GameCube beans around the A button that'd be nice.

I am not a big fan of the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo. For example, I enjoyed playing RE4 on the GCN far more than on the Wii. I just don't like pointing at the screen for long periods of time. However, I do think that SMG's implementation of the controller is pretty good. Collecting star bits by simply pointing at them feels retardedly good, and prevents it from feeling like an unpleasant but necessary task.

The waggle controls do have some issues, though (mainly because of the unreliable collision detection). I wish they added punch/kick options to one of the buttons on the remote.

It is a fantastic controller combo, no doubt, but it's also pretty specialized.  That is, it doesn't work for every type of game and, as such, could not be considered "the best".  One of the best?  Perhaps.
