McCain gets this frenzied look in his eyes when anyone mentions war, it's like a little kid in a candy shop. The man loves bloodshed and exertion of American military force as a casual foreign policy tool, he's a total neoconservative in that regard and Dems would do well to remind the US public of that fact.

As for tonight-

I expect Ohio to tighten up a bit but Clinton to still win it tonight, no idea about Texas though, it's still really up in the air. I said Hillary in TX by 3 yesterday on GAF and it's looking somewhat possible.

Now it's down to April 22nd's Pennsylvania primary-this is sort of the armageddon scenario for the party, it's going to be Obama's charisma versus Hillary's scorched earth tactics and Philly machine influence. Fun to watch, but I wish this was over already.

Maybe, but I'd say it depends on how the campaign goes. If Hillary stays in attack mode and uses the same memes that McCain will (Obama's all show and no substance, he's not ready to be commander in chief of the armed forces, etc) and Obama's the nominee, that could hurt.

But otherwise you've got a motivated donor base and campaigns that are going full speed in terms of organization and recruitment, plus a much bigger share of national news coverage and local coverage in the few states that are left.

As I said on GAF, the longer the primaries go on, the more religious followers will get about their chosen candidates, and the more prominent the sour grapes will be when their candidate does not win the primary, which means regardless of who wins in the end, there will be a significant portion of the democratic base spurned, likely to not vote or care anymore at all.

If this drags on for another month, which is looking extremely likely, I will strongly doubt a democrat can win this election at all.

If this thing comes down to Superdelegates and they go to the side of whomever is actually behind in popular vote or delegate count... will there be as much outcry from the Democratic party as there was in Gore/Bush election?

Hispanic vote >>> all others

I know the popular sediment with the Bush wins was Evangelicals, but I believe he also won the hispanic vote by a decent majority. Which in those elections I believe could be looked at as the "swing" votes. The Hispanic vote is obviously becoming a major factor, and is the one group of voters that are growing exponentially every election. Which ever party can really firm up the Hispanic base, can really take a grip in future elections.

They accounted for one-third (1/3!!!!!!!) of the votes in the greater Houston area last night. And to be honest, they're so fucking gullible. Most of them only watch spanish television news, and those few channels will all champion one person. In 2004, they championed Bush, now they're championing Clinton. I voted and caucused yesterday in Austin.

I'm friends with the Republican precinct chairman who is also a huge Ron Paul supporter. Anyway, we head over to the school to caucus and when we get there we see a mob of people at the doorway to he cafeteria. We live in a very liberal hippy area so this was expected. The precinct chairman goes in, gets the packet to run the caucus and then comes out and makes a loud announcement to follow him for the republican caucus. Everyone laughs at him and then he says that it' ok we are all voting for Ron Paul, which was met with a few cheers and laughs.

Anyway, the 400 democrats had their caucus in the cafeteria while the 1 republicans had our caucus in the hallway. Our caucus consisted 7 young 20s college guys, a biker dude, a older fellow who brought his son and very well dressed woman who is an aid to the governor. Everything was underway after I did my duties as temporary secretary. I had to make sure everyone who was there voted. We started off by nominating and voting on delegates. We voted 5 Ron Paul supporters for delegates and then 3 for alternates. The next oder of business was voting on resolutions that will be sent to the higher ups to become official state of texas republican ideals.

We voted and passed the following resolutions.

1. End the federal income tax and replace it with nothing
2. Return to constitutional values to protect our liberty
3. Freedom of helathcare without government intervention.
4. Leave Iraq and take a non-interventionists foreign policy.
5. Free weed for everyone. (this made the older fellow ho brought his son kind of mad. He was a huckabee supporter.)

Then it came up that 8 of us were ron paul supporters which prompted the lady and th huckabee suporter to say "Well if i would have known that I wouldn't have voted for you." It didnt matter anyway cause we had majority 8-2.

Then after the caucus we went to the ron paul headquarters and drank some beer. I heard something about a second amendment party this weekend... I might try to go to that.

There aren't a lot of people who are sexist/racist enough to completely rule out ever voting for someone with fallopian tubes/too much melanin. But there are a ton of people who would think Hillary is a bitch for being as assertive as the average male politician, or would see Obama at a rally with a 90% black audience and write him off as an ethnic candidate.

Hillary isn't allowed to yell. Can you imagine if she pulled an "I paid for this microphone!" moment? It'd be like the Dean scream for her.

Obama isn't allowed to say any attacks on him are racist, and generally has to soft-pedal issues of racial justice. When the Jena 6 story broke, Hillary and Edwards released statements specifically talking about black/white issues, while Obama talked about justice in general.

And a black candidate who used urban, black vernacular as much as Bush uses his hick dialect? Getouttahere.

It's funny, isn't it? In 2004 the Dems had a chance to nominate a candidate that would draw clear, stark contrasts to Bush and instead they nominated an annoying Frenchman. This time around they have a chance to nominate someone who can draw clear, stark contrasts with McCain and they seem intent on at best crippling him before the big fight in November, at worst nominating a shrill, nakedly power hungry former first lady with ridiculously high negatives.
