The iPhone is looking really promising.
« on: March 06, 2008, 04:18:16 PM »
The SDK event revealed some interesting features that will be added in June.

Some highlights
--AppStore- download native iPhone applications some freeware some shareware.  Best thing is that you can download the apps directly to the iPhone.
--ActiveSync and Exchange support- (Who says Apple and Microsoft can't get along) for enterprise users
--Games-not normal cell phone garbage, but real games like Spore and a really nice looking Monkey Ball game from Sega.  Some of the games demos shown look better than most Wii games.  :lol
--iFund -Venture capital fund for small developers to create unique iPhone apps

Well I've had mine for almost a year now and I don't regret the purchase in the least. It's a great phone. It took awhile for shit to start coming out for it an Apple to unleash full support for how much the iPhone can really do.

I think the key to buying the iPhone is get your hands on one before you buy it. Play around with it in the store or something. It's a neat phone, but the lack of buttons and such could get to you.

Wait til June, SP, it is common knowledge that iPhones will be due for hardware refresh with 3g support.

I heard hardware refresh wasn't due til fall?

tho if the SDK is coming out in June, that makes a simultaneous hardware refresh seem likely...

my current RAZR is just a piece of dying shit. :(

That's pretty cool, but you can already do this for free using the installer on jailbroken iPhones/iPod Touches.    I'm on 1.1.2 with my Jailbroken iPod Touch, got apps like Maps, Weather, Mail, and Chat (with my AIM info works with) for free before Apple even released them, and can use stuff like an NES emulator and SCUMMVM for gaming.  I'm still waiting for a reason to do a legit upgrade.

The Belkin case I use for my Touch is form-fitting and protects the one part of the device that needs it-- The back!   :lol  But yeah, screw screen covers, you really don't need one.  I stopped worrying about it when I watched a Youtube video of some teenager scratching the shit out of his iPod with various objects, including an exacto knife, and no damage was done.   :o

just watched the entire conference from yesterday's SDK announcement. holy shit, if game devs jump on this it could really put some heat on ds and psp.  super monkeyball was ported to the iPhone in less than 2 weeks and it appeared to run at 30 or 60fps, full 3D with accelerometer support.   the guy from sega said they used the console code too.   :o. i'm seriously blown away.

Yeah, DS is fucked if devs jump on this.

edit: as fucked as it can be right now, at least. I would expect Nintendo to retaliate very quickly though.

I would KILL for DS 2 to follow iPhone's size/design/color depth for the screen.  Too bad that's a pipe dream.

Yeah Nintendo has really cheapened on tech this gen with DS and Wii.  Apple has always been forward thinking on tech, but at a premium price as well.  Oh, Nintendo of old please come back.

I don't know about Nintendo being screwed, since the iPhone/iPod touch is still a $300 and up device.  And Apple is doing something Sony should have done from the beginning and do solely digital distribution of iPhone games.

I agree, let's look at Apple's long history of support for games. I mean Nintendo doesn't have a chance.
