On a serious note. How do you guys view yourselfs?
« on: March 06, 2008, 10:43:51 PM »
I'm just curious on how we all view our selfs?

The overall view. Qualities, Negatives, Things you want to improve, Things you wish you weren't, etc.

It should be interesting to see honest answers. I'll post mine in a bit when I'm feeling a bit more ambitious and not in a rut. :P

Looks: 7/10

I think I look ok, nothing special. Often people give me concerned looks, perhaps because I'm a rather serious looking guy. My hair is naturally wavy, like really wavy which makes it look like I spend a lot of time on it. I know people think I put shit in it, which sucks.

Personality: 6/10

I'm rather boring. Granted all of my friends think I'm hilarious, but to strangers I come off quite aloof and distant. I'm not into partying and don't like social events much - large crowds of people make me feel uncomfortable, although not enough to make me paralyzed or something lol. I prefer my own company. I can spend hours reading or listening to music

Intellect: 8/10

I'm a pretty smart guy when I put my mind to something. But considering I'm often uninspired by school I don't put full effort into things.

Rating yourself is dumb.

I really wasn't saying rating. :P Just asking how you view yourself. Everyone has a view/opinion of themselves.

I'm fine with myself, perhaps I just don't care anymore. My personality just doesn't jive well with others I guess. I can't remember most of my childhood, don't have or want many friends, and prefer my own company.

Cheebs is a lively character. He's got many friends, is popular, has a strong family, etc. But sadly he is far too concerned with what other people think of him. Which suggests to me that despite having a seemingly great life he has self confidence problems, and is perhaps depressed

Yeah 60. I told him I was concerned about this, especially after he told me about how he hides his Star Trek and LOTR box sets whenever his cooler friends come by. I have two character turn offs: desperate people and highly self conscience people.

On a serious note, I think I'm awesome and could use improvement. I want to be a cultured black man although that is far from being possible.

I'm addicted to the internet, but being addicted to the internet is a lot better than degrading myself by hanging out with snotty assholes who don't know where to put a goddamn apostrophe.

I'm pretty proud that I am a 22 year old black man and have not yet gone to jail, although at this point I'm jinxing myself. My piracy will bring me in surely.

I wish I could write better. I need to improve that.

I need to lose weight, then I can have women take me seriously instead of as a toy.

I used to be depressed but now that I realize the best cure to depression is sucking it up and doing a good job in life and not giving a shit about what anyone else thinks I'm doing a lot better.

My goal is to make games and I need to learn how to animate right now so I can start making some already.

I need to practice my art more so I can be on a professional level when I turn in my portfolio.

I need to learn how to cook better.

On a serious note.

Finance: Focus on paying off my CC debt and increase my investing rate.

Physical: I need to start exercising again.  I love cycling, but it's still too cold where I like right now.  I'll probably join a gym soon, though.

Professional Development: I love web 2.0 and all that garbage.  And I work for a web 2.0 company, however, I've considered becoming a chef.  I have my doubts, though, because the life of a professional chef is difficult.  I would love to have a family and actually see them.  Restaurant chefs routinely work six days a week, 80 hour weeks.  There are other opportunities in the food service business, but I'm not too sure were I would fit.  I'm 27 and professional cooks usually start out in the late teens.  I'm terribly behind the curve in that respect.

Social/Spiritual: I want to become more involved at my local church.  I attend regularly, but need to get more involved.  I've also been a terrible friend and I lost touch with many of my long time friends.

I've got some pretty serious issues with how I view myself physically. I feel pretty good about myself until I look in a mirror or look down at the little gut that I've got, and then it's in the shitter for me.

As for how I feel about my personality and habits and whatnot, I know I'm way too fucking lazy. Most days, it takes a good deal to get me interested in doing much work. I do well at work under pressure, but on days when there's not 50 billion things to do, I end up just sitting around all day doing nothing. Give me a day when 30 things have to be done in the next hour, though, and I'll find a way to make it happen.

Fucking laziness. It kills most of the fun stuff I like to do because I'm too goddamn lazy to do it.

Well, that explains that...you should ask your grandparents (who you said were rich) if they could pay your dentists' appointments for cleanings.  Otherwise, you'll lose at least a couple of teeth before reaching adulthood.

Trust me, where I work, kids don't get regular cleanings and you'd be surprised how bad their teeth are.

General happiness : yes, very happy

Work : new lease of life recently

Finance : no massive worries

Looks : already married, now doesn't matter. the fact that i was more likely to turn stomachs rather than heads is pretty much irrelevant now.

General thoughts : Too old to care any more, no need to chase tail, finances secure, work going well. It's not entirely blue skies ahead , but nothing too stressful out there beyond house hunting.

... woot?

No worries at all. Like I said, I've had some pretty major self-image issues for years. If it's not one thing with me, it's another.

I don't really know why I care. I just don't like looking like an ugly grue, and that's how I've seen myself for for about half my life now.

When I hit 14 or 15 I developed (or I guess it just became noticeable) a somewhat moderate case of pectus excavatum which in turn made me self conscious about things like swimming and such. I need to get it fixed.

Throughout my life I've had people insisting that I'm brilliant when in reality I'm acutely aware that I'm just above average. Typical story of wonderful grades, high scores on aptitude tests, AP classes in high school, and so on. The low standards public schools have made me look much smarter than I am. I suppose I could do almost anything I wanted in terms of a career if I had the motivation. It just doesn't come as easy to me as some of you is all.

I'm also terribly antisocial. Have kept the same group of friends since elementary school for the most part. Sometimes I blow off my friends just so I can get a break and be alone, and then I feel guilty about it. I'm not ugly though at least, although I could do to gain a few pounds.

Despite all this, the amount of morons I encounter on a day to day basis help boost my self esteem tremendously. At the same time these idiots also manage to consistently wear down what little faith I have left in humanity.

I wish I lived on a deserted island.

Waiting will only worsen whatever issues you already have. A cleaning doesn't take much time; they'll find any problems you might have too. People who don't go to their check ups wind up with perio, which costs a lot of money to treat

Physically:  I'm really glad I joined a gym so now I'm working out and feel waaay better about my body even though I'm not yet where I want to be (it's only been like a month and a half).  I'm trying to be good with my acne pills/cream so I don't get breakouts.

My craft:  I'm a musician but I waste too much time on video games and need to just sit down and practice more to get my shred up.  I really want to play music for the rest of my life as EVERYTHING ELSE just bores me to tears.  I need to start practicing in the mornings and at night, I'm going to start next week, get a schedule.   :maf  I want to create super heavy music and I know I can get better I just need to PRACTICE!

Spiritually:  I want to read my Bible every day and not skip it.  To me God is more important than anything else and I'd like to be a kinder person mostly inside, but also out.  Inside needs more work I'd say.

Eh, I don't know. I'm a very kind and loving person. I'm smart. I'm not ugly. I'm thin. My metabolism pretty much rocks.

But I lack ambition and things like that. I'm lazy. My circadian rhythm is totally fucked up. I'm sometimes easily flustered. I often think I'll be a bad parent.

Hmm.

As I was beating my friends in Scene It! tonight, they said I should be using my brain to actually do good in the world. Not memorizing the release dates of movies. :-\

Honestly, I view myself as completely average or below average in every way. I've never excelled in anything. In ten years I'll just be on a recliner in some bachelor pad somewhere drinking cheap beer, and watching Law and Order.

Then I'll probably fall asleep while smoking a cigarette and burn to death.
