social networking is a horrible fascinating thing
« on: March 07, 2008, 09:45:50 AM »
so far thanks to myspace and facebook i have been found by

1) the girl i lost my virginity to (who sent me two really kind of sad messages saying that i broke her heart then deleted her profile)

2) my best friend in highschool (who is now in japan making dance music utilizing traditional japanese instruments over 808 beats)

3) my best friend from military school who i haven't talked to since 1993 (when he left military school then he tried to turn me onto jesus)

as an antisocial misanthrope whose life is built on regrets, the dregs of my past are constant horrifying reminders of my past failures in life and my current inability to live up to any sort of potential others see within me.

but i guess my life is the same as all lives.  theories which sound great in the laboratory of our minds fail in  real world conditions.

That was one of the draws of these networks.  However, after learning that we are all too busy to rekindle old friendships I gave up on all that reunion garbage.

Do you have that chick's e-mail?  She sounds like she's on the rebound (i.e., easy).

How did you respond?

i didn't.  i hadn't spoken to her or thought about her for 15 years or so, so her to find me and write me these kind of mournful, sad notes was just really too much.  she had become married and had two kids and had managed to find this life for herself, where as I... I don't know.  I don't feel like i really have anything. the past several years of my life has been this paring down to where i find i have nothing but books, clothes that no longer fit, a mattress,  and a computer.

I don't know any people so I won't benefit from social networking.

I've encountered people I haven't talked to or seen in years from myspace. It's weird. Really weird seeing some of them married or pregnant or in fucking Iraq serving in the marines.

the few hs friends i talk to are a depressing lot who eventually moved BACK to our shitty hometown, giving up their shitty best buy jobs for an even shittier wal-mart job or to become a smalltown cop. ew.

I've stopped my dreaming,
I won't do too much scheming
These days, these days.
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten.
Please don't confront me with my failures,
I had not forgotten them.

I haven't heard much from old HS friends, since I am still really close with the few friends I had in HS... but the other day I got a friend request from some girl I used to go to HS with, who now looks pretty cute.

So weird - after 12 years of thinking someone was dead, to finding out they aren't and they live down in Australia. Mind fuck total.

well, there are some who would argue there is not much difference

I like the networking sites. I pretty much only friend people I know, and I like kind of keeping up on them. One of my high school friends just got engaged, and I wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for that creepy Facebook news feed thing haha. But I was so happy for her. :)

It's kind of weird- since I left Atlanta last July it's odd to keep up with my old "friends" on the intertubes.  It takes very little commitment, tho, so it's probably the only way any of them are liable to hear from me ever again.  I've decided that the life of solitude is the way to go, for the most part.
