Vista's speech recognition is a killer app

Too bad so few use it :(  I can navigate to JO material without even touching the mouse or keyboard, which leaves my hands open for other tasks.

It's really handy for dictating in word though.  It's pretty accurate most of the time, but you just have to make sure you go over it by hand afterwards to fix the occasional muck ups.

Didn't they have a voice recognition presentation one time that was a complete fuck-up?

Microsoft bought I think Dragon who had really good voice recognition and they set them to work on Vista.

It appears to not have been Dragon.  Someone was purchased specifically to do this.

I will. . .the only snag in Vista's is that all applications don't support it.

No idea.  I have only used it on Vista, so it has it regardless.

So do most PC's come with microphones nowadays? Don't laugh, I honestly don't know haha. Mine is a non-top-of-the-line desktop from summer 2004.

I've never had a computer with a microphone. My first PC was a TANDY. True story.

I don't know about most, but more and more do.  But most of them aren't ideal for speech recognition, since you need the mic to be close to your mouth, and the mics that are built into laptops or come with webcams are the ones you sit a bit away from.

With that said, you can get a perfectly acceptable headpiece mic for probably 20 bucks.
