Best magician/evil pagan in the realm of comics?
« on: March 08, 2008, 01:07:10 AM »
1)  Alan Moore:

Practising magician and occultist; worships a Roman snake-deity named Glycon.

2) Grant Morrison:

Practitioner of Erisian chaos magic.

Of course, Morrison is the better comics writer, but who's the better magician?  I vote for Grant since he actually used chaos magic to save The Invisibles from cancellation.  Plus check out the dong.

did that bald dude have a C-section or something?

I choose Alan Moore, because I am genuinely afraid of him.

Alan Moore looks like he would just flat out fucking kill you if crossed him. With his beard.

Grant Morrison has great overall concepts, but he often mars them with a sloppy execution.

I disagree.  I could probably count the number of times Grant has fucked something up on one hand.  Not so for Mr. Moore.

Have you read his Justice League run?  That's a pretty good example of what I'm talking about.  It feels very sloppy.

I thought people liked that?  I am no judge on that since I have never read Justice League.  I'm not terribly huge on gay superhero shit.

People do like it and I'm not saying it's bad, just sloppy.  Like he blew his load coming up with an awesome idea and basic plot and then was on auto-pilot for the rest of the storytelling process.

And for every misstep he's made, Alan Moore has probably made one even more egregious.

Except when Alan Moore is "on," he's far better than Morrison could ever hope to be.

Moore and Morrison are both great. There's no reason to fight, children.

I'd argue that We3 is as good as Watchmen, though not as influencial.

I'd also argue that Moore is way, way better at fucking shit up. Promethea? Tom Strong? Hell, even Black Dossier sucked.

Morrison hits at least a solid triple almost every at bat. He's the better comics writer.

But Moore's the better magician. FACT.

Has Moore ever used magic to SAVE A COMIC?

I loved Tom Strong, and Moore's work on Supreme is amazing.  Anytime Moore does Superman-type characters, he knocks it outta the park.
