2 great (musical) tastes go great together

The Black Keys, a shit kickingly awesome barebones blues-rock group you might remember me blathering about months ago, are about to drop their new album "Attack & Release" in April.  This is where the second influence comes in- frickin' Danger Mouse produced it.  That guy is busy- the new Gnarls Barkley is about to come out as well.

You can hear the first single "Strange Times" and play an amusing little flash game by going to the band's website here:  http://www.theblackkeys.com/

I highly encourage you jackasses to check this stuff out.

Thanks for the heads-up, Raoul. Fun song. Seems a bit different than their other stuff. I think I can sense the Danger Mouse influence.

Uh... no.  It's like blues meets psychedelia.  DangerMouse is just a producer- hell, he's produced lots of shit, not just rap.

I was j/k it sounds pretty cool though. I'll have to scope it out tomorrow. Blues and Psychedelia generally work out for the best.

Pink Floyd was sorta like that at first w/ Syd Barrett.

Yup. Like Madlib, Dangerdoom is an accomplished producer who actually can play instruments and write his own shit, unlike many mainstream rap producers. He's a great drummer

He's also a pretty good dj, and a great bartender.  I remember him serving me many pitchers of Newcastle in Athens in various bars, and also hearing pretty good dj sets.  I think I still have some of his mix cds from that time.  (circa about 98-02)

Oh shit that's awesome.

He's doing a lot of stuff this year, from the new Gnarles to working with Beck. I hope he'll do another DangerDoom album with MF DOOM. The first one isn't one of DOOM's best albums, but I just want to hear something new from him this year

The Black Keys are great*. Rarely have I been so surprised to learn that a singer is a skinny white dude. Rick Astley of course was the first to hoodwink me.

*but not as great as Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Blues Explosion! :rock

Reminds me of Blue Cheer from the late 60s.

I'm digging it so far "Magic Potion".
